Adding a rear brake to a Bianchi Super Pista

So I have this friend (not me I swear!) who bought a Super Pista frameset to build up and ride as a single speed. I neither support nor condone running a tack frame with no rear drilling as a single speed and I told him that before he bought it. But he bought it and bought the Keiren Promax rear brake kit to use on it. We were just trying to install it and found out that the bolt on the brake is way to short to reach through the seat stays even without their metal brake bridge parts. Are there any other options to add a rear brake to that frame without drilling?

Running it fixed is out of the question?

Yup. They don't want to ride fixed. I would of course be willing to pay him half what it cost and ride it fixed but it's one size too big for me

Can you post a picture? Can't you just take the bolt with you to a local hardware store, match the threads, and find a longer one?

There is this version for rear brakes but it's not cheap ($150)

What about adding a front brake to the rear? Not sure if this will work or is even a good idea or is kosher.

That looks slick. Much better than the Keiren kit. If it's adjustable to reach long enough that might work.

Use a front brake caliper on the rear. Problem solved.

Nope. Won't work with aero seat tube of Super Pista. Meant for standard round steel seat tube.

Why not sell the super pista frame, then buy a comparable frame with a drilled brake bridge.

Friend probably wants that aero look, but doesn't understand that there are issues when you want to run it single speed, like with a rear brake.

What is wrong with riding a single speed? You act as if it is a naughty act. Nothing wrong with it at all. Maybe your friend (or you) might decide to ride it fixed. I would love to get a Keirin frame and drill the French Connection UK out of it for brakes and run it as a single speed with as many non-NJS parts as possible. Heck I might even get one of those silly "turn it into a geared bike kits" and really go for the gold ; )

Anywho what you could try is longer bolts or as the Scrodmeister said just use a front brake. The only real difference is the length of the bolt. I know plenty of people who have done something similar or run rear brakes at the front as aero brakes because they are trying to build a more modern TT bike on an older frame (it is pretty sweet though 700c disc rear and a Fuji Aero crabon fork at the front with a 650c wheel)

Nothing wrong with riding single speed. There is something wrong with riding single speed without front and rear brakes and therefore something wrong with trying to build a single speed with a frame that doesn't support rear brakes
