anyway... that's it.

(*in a really soppy melodramatic voice*) why can't we all get along?

I thought that this was a clothing thread.
Couture is a French word for sewing, or a sewed item
ie. Haute Couture -> Fine clothing, specifically designer labels

I'd rather share the streets with flocks of clueless hipsters than one angry, deluded elitist like this guy. Seems he knows just enough words to sound self-important, but lacks the life experience to avoid sounding like a teen-angst manifesto.

Can we talk about pie instead?

self importance makes you a ****** bag.

and to respond to the original post... (about getting run off the road by cars). I've found that a good ol'e kick in the quarter panel does really well if you happen to catch up with them at the next light. My experience is that its 18 - 21 year old homeboys with their civics that find it funny edging me off the road... I've also found that if you're wearing a 3 foot, 5 or 6 pound chain over your shoulder... they tend not to want to **** with you when you catch up with them.

At least fixed-gear-snobbery hasn't yet developed into hostility like other segments of cycling *cough*downhill, bmx, freeride*cough*. I made the mistake of showing up at the skatepark with my trials bike one night, and the damn BMX kids would not shut up about it for the whole hour I was there.

The nice things about the boom in fixies:

1. A lot more parts and options. Sure its not as cool as finding that rare part in a used bin, but when I want a cog or chain its nice to go to my LBS and pick up EAI cogs and Izumi chains. Props to thems.

2. Theres a lot more 2nd hand stuff, makes life much cheaper.

3. More peeps on bikes is always a good thing, although drunk out of control brakeless riders make me nervous. And I still don't quite know why you can take the nicest of folks, stick 'em on a track bike and they turn into MadMax, roadwarrior. Its weird.

4. More people wanting to race on the track. More demand = more money = more tracks being built and refurbished. Can't complain about that at all.

i dont really get his problem with roadie conversions.
road conversions aren't trying to be track bikes they're just fixed gears.
all track bikes are fixed gears but not all fixed gears are track bikes
am i wrong about this?

It's for just that sort of piece that profanity was invented. I mean, where do you even start to critique that, and why bother when your efforts would be so obviously wasted?

It just seems very junior high school to me to misunderstand people's being introspective and focused (I sure am on my bike) for being somehow a slight on you. It has nothing to do with you... these people don't know who you are and they don't care. I mean I guess I can understand certain circumstances where people are social the way you seem to want them to be: long distance hiking, the winnebago scene, things like that, but in a city most people prefer to mind their business and fo you to mind yours.
insert irony, not reprisal. this was a clothing thread and the question was about a $250 messenger bag.

I think a few of your are missing the point. This guy NODDED at that messenger. I'm pretty sure giving a sign that you exist and are a person isn't trying to get into your cadre of elite friends. I nod at other cyclists because we're out there fighting traffic and sucking exhaust all for the sake of being on a bike.

Nodding is polite, rolling your eyes is not. Being a dick last time I checked doesn't score you any cool points.

1) Messenger sounds like a W-nker.
2) Yuppie couple sound like W-nkers.
3) Car driver sounds like a W-nker.

Is there an echo in here.

I really don't see the point of this thread but it the replies are hilarious.

Did you drop your pie when you went down?
Tell me you didn't drop the pie!!!
I don't know what this means but it sounds funny.

I think this just about describes what we are talking about:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granfalloon

However, I know out here on our little rustic island without electricity or mordern plumbing, seeing one of the 20 on the whole island that rides fixed, we all know each other, or since plently of them work in bike shops, get to know the new ones. Out here, we really are a community. We do group rides and invite any SS or fixie riders we meet, if they don't want to hang out, we won't cry about it. Most do hang out though. If I see a messenger, since there are only 10 out here(only the boss rides fixed) we always give each other some kind of acknowledgement, because most people out here a triathaletes who don't play in traffic. I respect their time and just figure I'll see them another time. Its about the bike I figure, not the tea party you want everyone to show up to, sometimes it just works out that way.
