powder coating in NYC

I saw this on craigslist:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/mcy/71548913.html

I emailed them about bike prices.

75.00 single colors
add 50.00 for a candy or metallic
3-4 days turnaround

seems like a good enough deal.

Are you getting it done? Post pics and reviews if you do. I've been wondering about them also.

When they first started posting on CL they were saying $50. I wonder how the price came up so soon.

I wonder if they raised their price because so many people were inquiring about getting bikes done.

$75 is still good enough of a price for me to continue thinking about getting it done... but for 50 bucks, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Unless this guy doesn't know what kind of money he can command or just is really hungry for work: that's an unreal price. Outside of NYC they're charging $250 and a 3 to 4 week turn around time. There's a guy out here on the island who charges in the vicinity of $150 and does alot of stuff for the Brooklyn Machine Works people. His turnaround is like a week and a 1/2.

powdercoating bargains are out there. I had 3 frames done in Lancaster, PA for $60 each. unfortunately the place closed last June. basic stuff I wouldn’t hesitate to take to one of the cheaper places but when you get into the super thin steels where what media they use to blast matters and detail work like clear coating over decals I’d be more inclined to pay more for a bike knowledgeable place.

i've used colorlife in LI for my girls iro he charged $100 for the frame and fork

did they clear coat over the decals? looks nice. I'm pretty sure they did Indian Larry's last Biker Build-Off chain of mystery frame. I remember seeing one of the guys had a colorlife t-shirt on when they delived the frame.

etchr 05-05-05 10:28 AM

that pink is SO fire.
did they choose that color/shade or did you bring a color sample for them to use?

chaloots 05-05-05 11:04 AM

the decals are over the powdercoat on both bikes.

for the color on the iro she picked it off a color pallet they had. after the first coat they layered a metallic sparkle over it. she loves it.

i might have to do that. i SO want to get my bike painted.

YellowFixedGear 05-05-05 01:57 PM

ive heard of other places offering powder coat on bike for $50 and did see this guy first charge $50. $75 still seems good but you gotta get the candy coat with the glow in the dark finish.. nice!

Aluminum can be powdercoated right?

HexagonSun 05-05-05 03:17 PM

can someone **** up a powdercoat? or is it a pretty standard shake 'n bake job?

na975 05-05-05 03:32 PM

i had a part of my car powder coated, and dust stuck to it while its was cooling down,so yeah it can get f***** up if the guy's working in a dirty place.

so, anyone use these guys yet? http://www.cpfinishes.com/index.html

or any other good nyc options?

wangster 02-21-06 10:14 AM

+1

mrRed 02-21-06 10:21 AM

once my new ride comes in, the old lady's going in for a paint job. I'll have to check out one of these people, see how good they are.

Does that include media blasting as well?

I heard of people getting their bikes back with the BB shell completely closed off with the powdercoat. So yes, they can f it up so make sure they've done bikes before and know what they are doing.

mrRed 02-21-06 10:27 AM

damn, that's ridiculous. I'm definitely gonna have to check that out.

wangster 02-21-06 06:22 PM

ahh... who'm I kidding, I ain't got no interns... damn, I'm almost an intern myself.

YellowFixedGear 02-21-06 09:38 PM

I actually decided to go with liquid paint. HOPEFULLY I should have it back tomorrow. I had to get the most $$$, Bling bling kandy paint job that took forever to get done. If its done, I will be sure to post pics.

bregprice 08-02-07 11:32 AM

I STRONGLY recommend you avoid Colorlife in LI for powder coating. They ruined my frame, lied about it over the phone, and packed it so poorly that the frame was useless after shipping. Very dishonest guys.
