Which fixie

Hey I have been riding my friends surly steamroller and have been looking to get something Similiar. I'm 5'11 170 and have been riding bikes for 20 years. Would like a complete ideally but can also build up a frame since that can be better in the long run. want a durable and light aluminum bike up to $1000. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

If you like the steamroller, why not buy a steamroller?

SCK 02-07-16 11:52 AM

This is more aggressive than the Steamroller, but is a solid deal:
Aventon Cordoba complete bike ? Retrogression
Also, not aluminum, but the #kilott gets relatively high-praise around here.

Great point. I guess cause I'm just having trouble finding one, especially a complete one, and wondering if there are any other recommendations out there from more experienced fixie riders

Well, if you can afford to spend $1000, an excellent alternative choice is the All-City Big Block:

All-City Big Block complete bike ? Retrogression

The aventon cordoba and mataro are solid choices for alu, and your budget would allow u to switch to a better crank or whatever. If you liked the steamroller so much then go with what tt suggested. I've ridden a big block before and they are crazy smooth.

at 1k you might as well build your own bike

I die a little inside every time someone calls it a fixie.

You and me both. I swear, it's always seemed almost like a "derogatory" term for a fixed gear bike. I've always just called them track bikes.

I refrain from using the term fixie here because it does seem to bother some members. However i have no problem with it, seems a natural language progression, a thing people do. Like calling a bicycle a bike.

Just for argument's sake, they are not all track bikes. My kilo OS has fenders, and 40mm tires.
I even have an Alton minivelo that came fixed from the factory. The factory even calls it M Fixie.

Good point. Potato/potahtoe. Just like not all hot tubs are Jacuzzis. :)

could try out the nature boy as well

Thanks for the input! Keep em coming. Guess I said fixie instead or fixed gear cause I'm a lazy typer. But looking for something with a little more road feel then track feel i suppose, bigger rake, since I'm not really racing competitively on track ya know.

Wabi make a nice bike, more of a road bike feel.

+1. For $700 to a little over a grand, you could get a lightweight steel bike made with quality tubing. And since you're not riding it on the track, the road geometry will be much more comfortable.

And since they let you customize the gearing, handlebars, levers, tires and such, this saves you some money.

Thanks, will look into

I have a Wabi and a Big Block and I love them both. If weight is priority I would go with the Wabi If durability is a priority I would go with the Big Block.

Cinelli - because you deserve this.
