Built up a Fuji 650c SS for my kid's 11th birthday
I've had the bike for a while, but I had it set up as a fixie for my now 14-year-old (who'd long since outgrown it). My little guy didn't want a fixed gear.
Tossed on a free hub and changed to straight bars. (The drops that were on there had him stretched out too far, and it was hard for him to reach the brake levers.) Changed out the brakes and levers, installed new tires (expensive for 650c!) and added new bar grips.
Now, if I can find my calipers, I can measure the top tube diameter and get him some proper cable guides!
These little Fujis are so cool.

Yeah, my older guy was all about the fixed gear. My younger guy, not so much.
For some reason, my two kids have completely different interests and attitudes, regardless of which drugs i give them.
