Front loading threaded stems
I like to swap my bars around on every once in a while. my track bike is threadless and has an open face for easy installation and removal of bars. my commuter conversion is threaded but it has the standard single bolt style clamp stem. so yeah, i tend to not change my bars up on that bike cuz its more trouble than its worth. id like to find a front loading threaded stem for the conversion so that i can have more options but ive only found a few online. this one from nashbar is about what i want, but id like to have more of a choice in stem length http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=
anyone know of any other good deals on a front loading or hinged threaded stem that will fit 26.0 bars? im also aware of threaded to threadless adaptors but id rather not go that route if i dont have to. |
Salsa SUL, Kalloy, and Dimension are three that come to mind. Of those, I'd take the Salsa over the latter two. Hope this helps. Do a Google on Mud, Sweat and Gears and Lickton's bicycle. I don't remember either web address offhand.

Out of the saddle this thing flops around like a wet noodle. I'd only really recommend it for folks under 150. The one I have is 120mm (i think) and has a pretty short quill (not much up and down adjustment). If you're still interested after this glowing endorsement, I'll give it to ya. Feel free to pay for postage or send me a bottle of beer in return, or something like that...but I'm not trying to sell the thing...just cleaning out the junk that I'll never use.
If you think the Murex is short and flexy, perhaps you don't have enough insertion? My only gripe with the Murex is the quill plate is held on by little screws that like to rust, rather than with a rubber dust cap. Frankly, if no one else is interested in it, I'd be interested in using it for my wife's fixed bike. Something tells me she will want to change bars... |

Nashbar has a super cheap front loading threaded stem. I think it's the Modolo Q-Race Stem, for 24.95. If you look at the cheapest stems on Nashbar, it'll be there. If it's not the Q-race, it's one of the other Modolos, but I'm pretty sure it's the Q-Race
