IRO Drivetrain kit

The crank on my Fixie died, so I replaced it with a super cheap BMX crank. However, the chainline is ****ed with those cranks - if I don't use spacers, the ring sits further out than the outer position on my old cranks, but the base of the crank is nearly touching the BB.

Anyways, I want new cranks. And my cog is due for replacement anyways. Soo I was thinking of getting the IRO drivetrain kit. For $125USD, you get IRO track cranks, 46th ring, new BB, Soma cog of your choice, lockring, and track chain. It's all 1/8th. This seems like an awesome deal, and I have IRO hubs already and love them.

Has anyone used any of these components? Happy with them (particularly the cranks)? Are there other similar setups or deals I should be considering?

i bought an complete iro and so far i have had no problems with it. the onyl thing is that i dont believe that they are true track cranks. i am not saure but i tried to put a track chainring on and the spacing was different. i managed to find a 53 tooth road bike chainring that would fit. does anyone else know anything about the spacing?

Not to question your information, but the build kit page doesn't specify that the kits are 1/8". The separate cogs listed on the crankset/bottom bracket/cog page are lsited as 3/32". Are you certain the kit is 1/8"? If you're buying the whole kit, it doesn't matter, but you may want to call IRO if you haven't done so already.

Aside from the fact that the ring is on the inside (this isn't an issue for anyone but me, I guess, but it has been an aesthetic thorn in my side for some time as far as building up a fixie is concerned- that and fear of pedal strike even with 165s is what eventually made me buy a track frame, which will arrive Tuesday), it sounds like a great deal. You're not going to get anywhere close to that price with any track-specific 1/8" setup. The BB may be a weak link (long-term), but you can always buy a higher-end model. 68 x 110 and 107 are no problem to find.

The site states that the crank with a 107 or 110 (seems you'd have to pick one or the other) will give you the correct chainline (42mm).

I'm going to order some wheels from IRO soon. How are yours?

My bad about the chain width. I'm not sure where I got that from. They definitely seem to be 3/32". The asthetics of the ring on the inside is still much nicer than anything I've had to date. I didn't realise it wasn't a real track crank, but I guess as long as I can find road stuff to fit, I won't worry about it. Sounds like it's a good deal. Must. Wait. For. Tax return.

I love my IRO wheels. I ordered a set of hubs only and had my LBS build a wheel, but in retrospect, I really wish I had just gotten the deluxe wheelset (with Deep-Vs). It's a great deal. I don't put any real care into my hubs, and after a full year including tons of rain, snow, and salt, they still run beautifully. At some point I'll probably treat them to some new bearings, but the originals still roll very smoothly.

My only real complaint is that it's fixed/free. If the hub was fixed/fixed I think it would be an unbeatable deal. When I manage to get the old freewheel off, I'll probably bum-bike the free side with a secondary cog.

The IRO drivetrain kit is a great deal IMO. With a 110 BB the cranks will have a nearly perfect chainline. The stuff works really well together and looks great, again, IMO.

I believe Tony has fixed/fixed and black hubs now - he said that he'd have them by end of April.

i just recieved my IRO wheelset the other day. i asked for and got a fixed/fixed rear hub spaced for my 126mm rear. they seem really nice, tight, and true. went with just the basic's in silver but for under 200$ how can you beat it?
when i spoke to Tony on the phone he basically said he doesn't really make money on the wheelsets and did hint they might go up in price maybe a couple bucks. still be worth it though i think.

I didn't realize he had fixed/fixed now ... and black ... I guess it makes sense for the Mark V Pro ... even if his prices go up, it'll still be a great deal, and with fixed/fixed, I will happily make my next set another IRO. Way to go Tony. Mad props.
