Aventon Cordoba - BB / crank set compatbility

Hi,

I am going to order aventon cordoba frame to build a singlespeed, and I can't figure out what BB will work in this frame?
Will the shimano sm-bbr60 68mm english thread work? The frame calls for 68x103 bottom bracket , but I can't find the specs on sm-bbr60 if it's 103 or 108 or what?

This build on PR Aventon Cordoba - Pedal Room is using a 68x108 Truvativ Powerspline BB Truvativ Powerspline BB | Chain Reaction Cycles

Thanks!

False.

Yes, the Cordoba (like most other current "track" frames) has a 68mm English-threaded BB shell, but the spindle length and type always depends on the crankset being used, never the frame.

The bike you link to on PedalRoom is using a 68x108mm PowerSpline BB because that's what the Sram S100 crankset requires to have a proper chainline.

Pick out a crankset first, then buy the corresponding BB. Easy, greasy.

Scrodzilla - perfect. I got the 68x103 recommendation from a dealer actually.

A dealer who apparently has no idea what he's talking about.

BTW - the Shimano SM-BBR60 is an outboard bearing BB that is only compatible with cranksets having a Hollowtech II-style integrated spindle.

I won't name them, maybe the guy was new

2nd question. I am removing my oval concepts crankset from my road bike (upgraded to 6800 52/36 groupset), is it possible to re-use the oval compact crankset with the big chainring only, mate it with a mathcing 68mm BB and use the road bike chain and single speed rear cog? There is nothing wrong with the oval crankset and if I could re-use it why not?

Thanks!

You could certainly do that but you may need to play around with what length spindle works best with that crankset set up as a single speed.

Try it using the BB you already have and measure where your chainring is from the center of your BB shell. If it's anywhere between 40-45mm, you're good to go.

Scrodzilla - the current BB is pressfit into the fuji frame so I don't think I'll be able to re-use it. Hence why I was looking at this BBR60.

Ohhhh...the Oval crankset you have is a Hollowtech II-style crankset? I was thinking it was square taper.

If so, the spindle is integrated on your drive side crank arm and spindle length is irrelevant.

Yes, correct. So it sounds like I may be able to re-use the crankset I have with corresponding BB (any recommendations here?) that works with the crankset and being 68mm english thread to fit the frame?

I'm not 100% certain on the specs of your crankset, so that's hard to answer.

If it's got a Hollowtech II-style spindle attached to the drive side crank arm, any 68mm English-threaded Hollowtech II-style BB will work.
