Mango Bikes Point Blank
 

Hello @ all.

Since I haven't found much about "Mango Bikes" here and nothing about their "Point Blank" (Point Blank - Brooklyn Yellow | Point Blank | Bikes), I'm asking about experiences with this bike (manufacturer).

I read everything on their website and asked quite a few things which they answered me really quickly.
I need a fast commuting bike for the city and looking for the best-value single-speed bike. (I want to ride with 2 brakes and freewheel)

This bike is:
6061 aluminium frame + fork
lot of brand-parts (brakes, crankset, bottom bracket, ..)
It weighs "around 10kg".

As a student I'd get 10% discount so it would be around 450€ or 510$ for the whole bike.

Now, it would be really nice to know your impressions and thoughts about it.
Also if you have better-value alternatives that would be really appreciated!!! :)

Entry to mid level fixed gear, looks like it is comparable to Aventon and Leader probably. As for name brand parts, I see a few but nothing that jumps out. #kiloTT will be suggested I am sure, and then others will chime in. I see nothing that stands out on this bike at all. Can you test ride it before purchase?

So, what single-speed bikes could you recommend me under 500€?
I'm really new to this kind of cycling.. So, I already informed about everything but I need a recommendation on just which brand and which model to get (as light as possible and as many name brand parts as possible, inside that price range).

PS: no, unfortunately they're in the UK and I'm living in Germany right now..

I've never heard of that brand before. But, if the frame and fork are decent, the price is very competitive.

Have you ridden an aluminum bike before?

Okay, yes I would change the fork for a lighter one maybe, after some time... Carbon fiber would be more comfortable on the street, I think, right? (and of course lighter)

No, I had standard steel bikes until now. My last one is an old 80s frame (not road bike, just "standard bike" which I stripped to the basics so it's actually a single-speed now. But it weighs ~16 kg.. lol
I ride with almost maximum tyre pressure for my slim tyres so I'm used to quite stiff riding. (Of course, no suspension on my current bike ^^)

PS: Building a single-speed myself from ground up would be too expensive afaik and I'm not too experienced so I might do sth wrong (:lol:) that's why I ask for a decent, complete bike to buy.

I recommend doing whatever it takes to test ride an aluminum bike before you blind buy one. They feel very different. You may love it, and that would be great. But, if it isn't to your liking, finding out after you bought one would suck.

Okay, I will try a random aluminium bike at my local bike shop (which isn't the best :D) to get a feeling of how the frame rides. :)

And what I want to add is: I'm looking for a bike that has a decent frame so I have a "basis" and can change fork, wheels, stem, handlebars etc. with time, so the frame would be more important to me than, let's say the wheels... :)

I'm still looking for just a little "list" or so with a few bike models (and prices; maybe even pros, cons). This could also become a thread to collect all the entry and mid level fixies that people here have experiences with :)
Both steel alloy and aluminium frames could be collected, because of different preferences and expectations for individual riders here.... :)

I've seen a few Mango Bike retailers. They seem to be sold through their own stores. kind of like Mott Street bikes.

No idea about their quality, but I suspect you'd be better off going with a #kilott

I've had a look at the Kilo TT bikes. They don't look as aggressive / track-like, I think it's supposed to look "retro" or so. But that would be fine for me if it is a really nice and lightweight frame (is it light???).
The price is also really low so I could invest a little bit for other bars or so.... :)
Is there a single-speed option or a matching single-speed wheel that matches the front wheel? :)

Don't recommend Kilo TT for people outside of yankee imperialist land.

What's up with the "Aventon Mataro" bikes? 🤔🤔 They are under 9 kilograms, sealed bearings etc, 2 brakes and flip flop hub and they cost $499 which is still in my price range...
Any experiences with them?
(ps : there was a seatpost issue but it's been fixed in the last models)

I almost have no options left besides Fuji and that mango thing..

I'm pretty sure goldsprint.de sells aventon full builds.
They do cost quite a bit more than in the US though.. I'm guessing that's mainly because BLB is their european distibutor and the UK is insanely expensive!

"a bit" - 700 f*kin Euros bro! Instead of 500$ which is 440€. 260 euros more for... well, nothing.. that doesn't make too much sense to me :P

And shipping one from the US would probably set you back more than that with costums and all that sh*t.

EDIT: BLB London sells everything for insane amounts. I'm not sure if that's because prices are that much higher in the UK or because they're the only big distibutor of fixed gear parts in europe.

I don't know, maybe I'll just take that "Mango" thing and see how it rides and invest money into new parts after some time....
