I don't know why people are snarky and/or mocking- it's not like it costs extra to be nice. And everybody was a newb at some point. I can only guess that a lot of the posters here are young men with an attitude. Maybe it has something to do with urban fixed gear/hipster culture, trying to be cool, I don't know. Then again, roadies can be jerks, too.

I think that 93% of of the time we are behaving badly because we are posting out of frustration because we want to be cycling but they're not because of work/weather, and they want to talk about bikes but usually there's **** all to actually talk about.
So...we turn on each other.
It's what makes the internet great.

i wouldn't spend so much time reading strangers' comments on here if they didn't contain so much quality snark. it's lasting value, whereas niceness gets old fast.

In some regards it's a healthy, give and take relationship

If I don't develop bike-induced ED by the time I'm 90 I'll consider my life to be a waste.

I admit that I am slow on my bikes and a slow learner as well. That said, I was not surprised this morning when I just now caught the hilarious irony of the OP's name and his "feelings".
Spartan: One of, if not THE most hardened and brutal warriors in all of mankind's history. literally born to be, and trained from infancy, to fear nothing, ignore pain, and kill, kill, kill, kill, and kill more.
A Spartan has asked us to ponder, to reflect on our own behavior, and to consider embracing kindness over roughness. A Spartan has asked us to treat him more gently.
Some things deserve a chuckle. When this particular twist of irony dawned on me I snorted coffee out my nose.
OP. Change your user name to Midwest Milkmaid.
