SS, MTB, and brake set-up....
I went out riding with some friends on Sunday morning (they had on loan 2 electric MTBs to test). Since I had been working on my SS, I took it to ride. The EMTBs had massive rotors front and rear. When we switched bikes, both of them commented on how far out I had my pads adjusted. When I switched back, I realized I had moved them out due to very muddy conditions the prior ride. However, in thinking about it, I also noted that I leave them out a little farther on my SS than on my geared MTB. Part of it is in an effort to not lose momentum.
Do you find yourself doing that, too? |
I find it easier to brake with one finger on the lever if I can pull it closer to the bar before the brake engages.

I keep lever throw pretty consistent, but boy do new XT trail brakes really stop quickly! Need to get a little better at modulating them to not scrub too much speed like you're saying.
