Fixed what....????

Hello Everybody;

This is my first post so first of all hello to all you.

I am entertaining the idea to get a fixed gear road bike and I have a couple of questions that I am sure, you experience riders, can answer.

First my background: I am familiar with road bikes even tho it has been years since I rode one. On the other hand, I ride every weekend my mountain bike.

Body type: I am a tall guy (6,3 feet or 1,93 m) and 200 pounds (90 kg)

Why I want a fixie: Mostly to occasionally move around the city having fun. No commutes, just recreational riding. I am attracted about the connection that a fixie is said to give and I like a challenge. Never rode a fixie before.....

For what I read it looks like a steel frame is what I need for the city. Can you confirm this?

I am very used to ride on the sidewalk (yes, in the city where I am It is not banned) so I wonder if a fixe can handle that?...can we feet bigger type like the ones used on the cyclo-cross bikes?

Since it will be my first fixie (yes I plan to get front brakes) I dont want to spend of fortune since I might not like it or get stolen

Any advice or recommendation will be greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance to all of you.

Why not always have fun? Aim high!

Also: Kilo TT (or WT for wider tires I think)

Stop this.

Agreed^^ Can't stand sidewalk riders

Sidewalks are for pedestrians. Take the road where you belong. And unfortunately, most of the cheap fixed gear bikes will not give you a great experience. Heavy, cheap components, poorly made frames. It is a catch 22.

#KiloTT

#kiloWT here :) Great bike! I run the coaster instead of the fixed cog though.

I'm willing to deny it.

Thank you for the replays, I appreciate it.

Letīs go by parts.

I live in Europe, more precisely in Barcelona, Spain.

I am thinking to spend no more than Euros 450.

What are reputable brands that you can recommend?

Thanks

In that case, a Mercier Kilo (TT or WT) might be a problem due to shipping... (it was for me, I'm in the Netherlands).

I went with a Fuji Feather, which is in that price range. I like it a lot, but I have nothing to compare it to (first fixed and first road bike). It comes with rather skinny tires and I'm not sure you could fit much wider ones comfortably though.

So wait...there's rice in the burrito AND on the side? That's just silly 'white people' nonsense.

rreahard 06-08-16 09:15 AM

Just get a single speed cyclocross bike and run it fixed. Something like the On-One Pompino. It's in your budget and should be available in the EU.

I see guacamole on the left and shredded cheddar on the right. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Scrodzilla 06-08-16 09:46 AM

I thought that was a bowl of rice.

Anyway, carrots that aren't pickled are worthless.

Yes, he should definitely buy a Dosnoventa to be ridden on the sidewalks of Barcelona using a coaster brake rear wheel.

icarusflies 06-08-16 11:49 AM

Thanks for the recommendations, is what I was looking for.

Yeah...I know.
But at least he can talk in person to someone in the same city and maybe they can steer him in the right direction.
