How Do Geared Bikes Feel compared To Fixed
If you also ride a geared bike, does it seem “dead” compare to fixed? I’m still new to riding my fixed gear bike which I’ve done exclusively the past couple of months. Today I needed to haul a bunch of stuff to work. So, I loaded it on a geared bike. The only thing that felt efficient was going downhill. Dang it is fun flying down hills!

If you switch back and forth enough then it's all just riding a bike, but you get sw8 fixie points.

My road bike feels exactly like my fixed gear. Except that I can coast. Oh, and change gears. But otherwise, exactly the same.
|
the sensation to me is completely different. Plus at this time im not in the shape i should be, so i feel as if its easier to ride fixed since they transmit momentum.

Pretty much same for me. Continental GP4000 700x25 on both Velocity A23 rims on both, although Dura Ace high flange hubs on the fixed A white Fizik Antares saddle on the fixed vs a black Fizik Antares saddle on the road bike Tan Bontrager cork/gel vs black Waterford steel frame vs Gunnar steel frame cribbed from the same blueprint 172.5 cranks with SPD-SL pedals on both The only weird thing is if I ride the fixed gear several rides in a row, then switch to the road bike, it feels like glue in the BB the first few times I coast. |
It's like anal sex vs. vaginal sex. One feels like you're riding on rails, the other feels loose and sloppy. But both still feel pretty good.

Can we all agree to just call e-bikes mopeds and be done with it? I'd feel so much better if that happened.

I'd love an electric fixed gear with an e-skid lever. Just squeeze the lever and it locks up the back wheel. I guess that would be like a brake, though. Damn.

Bicycles don't have motors unless you count the rider. I don't care what you call it, but if there is any type of motor, battery or assist on it, you can't call it a bicycle.
|
That's precisely why electric bicycles are called e-bikes.

Your moped should be called an E-Bike since it has an Engine. Electric bikes should be called Mopeds since they have Motors. Hmm. Actually, I guess yours should be called an E-pedcycle. |

I run the same tires, same saddle, and very very similar bike fits on both my sw8fixy and my road bike. So... ya they feel the same. I dunno.
My fixed gear is quite a bit lighter, so that's noticeable. |
My road bike and my fixed gear couldn't be any more opposite. Ones got track geo the other is a gravel bike with 38mm tires

This thread seems to be ping-ponging between on point and hijacked.
