Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I only change mine up if the Giro shoes get wet and I have to ride the next day. 2 pair of Chrome shoes, and one hardly ever gets worn. Need to replace the walking pads which I have but just have been too lazy to do.

Eggbeaters might cause hot spots on longer rides. For the bike in the OP, I'd go Shimano 105 SPD-SL.Great foot retention and stable cleat when you have to put a foot down

Got a set of SPDs and the most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought in my life. Fitted them. Discovered I have some abnormality to my right foot that causes pain with SPDs. Avoided riding that bike since.
