LeMond Fillmore production ended?
 

When my LBS (in Canada) called his distributor to order a Fillmore for me he was told out of stock and out of production. Anybody know what the situation in the States is?

there are a total 53 size 49cm's
and 4...61cm's...
get them while you can.

didn't see the price but it did look nice

i have owned one for about 9 months now and love it...
w/ some slight mods it's a sweet ride.
lifetime warranty on the frame is always nice.
1000$ is a lot though.

I guess not enough hipsters bought them to make the bike profitable for lemond. ;)

..for a "real" track bike $1000 isn't that expensive at all. The only bikes you can usually get for under $1000 is the cheap taiwanese bikes with low end parts ( i know there are a few exceptions, so please don't jump on me)

I'm not a huge fan of the fillmore, they don't look different or special...I like frames that have some uniqueness to them (whether its the seat stays or tube shape etc..) but from what I've seen they look worth the money.

We sell our handmade stock bikes for about $1200 Canadian with Miche Groupos (or others if the customer requests)...For good parts you're not going to find a track bike (especially steel) for less than $1000

Uhh, the lemond is nothing like a 'real' track bike, it road frame (road geometry) with track ends. Due to the material (853 steel), and the construction and geometry, it however is a smoooth ride.

yeah true, I guess by "real" I should have stated, a stock frame with track ends instead of dropouts. 853 steel is very good though...so I don't think $1000 is unreasonable at all.

And it has those nice bontrager low spoke wheels!

Does anyone know if it's just the Fillmore that's ending or the entire Lemond line ending with Trek.

They'll send you a Trek aluminum POS and tell you to go away.

i'm gonna guess right now it's the beginning of the end of lemond bikes.

Agreed.....Trek is probably clearing floor space for 2006-2007 Armstrong production 8-) Besides I can't see Armstrong and Lemond toasting each other at the company christmas party.

The Filmore was a doomed product from the beginning (and no, this isn't 20-20 hindsight speaking).

It's a nice track-for-street offering with low spoke count wheels and high sparkle. Unfortunately, that market is generally looking for a durable product at a reasonable price. Fuji, Bianchi, KHS all make these: various levels of acceptable cromo, traditional spoked wheels, generally unremarkable components, relatively low pricetag.

The Lemond was priced like a proper track bike but not actually suitable for track racing.

I heard they are sending Factory 2nds HALLMARK cards to broken frame owners...awwww.

Well, if the LeMond Fillmore didn't take off, maybe the Trek Mission or Kona Lower Haight will.

In the massed produced arena the "lifetime frame warranty" is a farce in most cases. The Fillmore is a discontuned model. However, It is my opinion that if you have one you will not be able to replace the frame with an actual Fillmore in the future. You will have to settle for something else in the more current year. If there is not an equlivent model.... your, #@%&, well you put in the word. If you read the warranty closely you will see this. That said, There has been some rumor that the LeMond line is going away. The discontinuance of the only ss/fixed model is disconcerting in that most companies are adding a SS and or Fixed/Track bike to their lineup for 06'.

2 things...

first, the warranty's a great selling point but its a road (err track, street, whatever) bike. in my 4 years in a shop I saw one road frame that got warrantied. its not likely to be something you require and if something occurs that results in frame destruction its probably not a warranty issue anyways. its because you did a stairdrop with it or something...JRA is not a warranty. isn't it an 853 frame anyways? Im too lazy to look. good luck breaking it (in a way that might be warrantied) if it is.

second, this is not the beginning of the end for lemond. the legions of yellow rubberband, postal jersey wearing fanboys were floating this last year during the LA/Lemond cat fight. dumb then, dumb now. trek makes lots of green selling lemonds, people are generally happy with them and its a good line. go to a cx race and count the poprads, they're everywhere. people place on them all the time. great frame for the dough. so for trek to decide to no longer offer lemonds they'd have to have decided that a profitable established line is useless or a liability of some sorts to them. As far as I can tell its neither. As for the notion that they'd do this to set the table for a yet unannounced armstrong line or just to please him, you must remember that LA is a sponsored athlete not a member of the Burke family. essentially he works for them. and he's about to retire. and there's still clouds swirling regarding the doping allegations. makes..no...sense...
as for the frame, just buy a surly or a soma or something. less drama.

I went to the Lemond racing page to look up who Lemond was sponcering to pick up a jersey for when I ride my road bike. Lemond lists Webcor, TIAA-cref, and Quark (womens). Visiting Webcors page I find Specialized is sponcering them. TIAA-Cref -- Javlin frames. Quark -- Blue cycles.

I hope this isn't the end of Lemond bikes.
