Rear rack ideas for a Wabi

Does anyone have any suggestions for a rear rack for a Wabi Classic? I saw one from Thule called the Pack n Peddle. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with this item. As always, many thanks for any input.

Haven't personally used one of those Thule racks myself, but a young lady who participates in some of the same "social" rides that I occasionally do and bike-commutes to her work has one on her roadie. I was interested in it since prior to my retirement I used to ride my bike to work daily myself and didn't want to install a permanent rack on my sw8 phiksie. Whenever I questioned her about it she was always very complimentary towards it, and of course it has the additional benefit of being usable on the front as well as the rear.

I've been considering a new rack lately and forgot about that one - if you do get it, please post a "review" after you've used it awhile...

What's the purpose of the rack? That thule rack wouldn't make the short list for me if I were getting a rack for a classic.

Hi Kingston and thanks to both you and IAmSam for your replies. I would be using the rack to strap my gym bag to for trips to the gym or beach, not much more. I'm open to something a bit more substantial if it works with my Classic. Do you have other suggestions I could look at?

i was considering a rack and ended up buying a trailer instead

For carrying a gym bag I would just get an inexpensive rack with a spring clip. The Topeak Explorer is a nice one, but a cheaper one would probably work just fine.

would a back pack that you used for a gym bag work?

Thank you for the suggestion Kingston. I will check it out. I asked my LBS about the Pack n Pedal but according to their catalogue it won't be available til 3/2017

Seat Post Rack

1 Attachment(s)
On my Wabi I have a seat-post rack with a quick release. This allows me to easily remove it from the bike, and given the metal seat post, it's capable of carrying a fair amount of weight. Attachment 538122

That looks like a great solution RJ. Who makes that rack? I love that it is so easy to remove.

Personally I've always thought that Pack n Peddle was kinda lunky and even more-so on a fixed-gear.

Here's my fixed-gear with two racks, a couple of days before my July tour. I mounted the rear seat-post rack to the seat-tube for extra clearance. The awesome front rack is my Jim Blackburn from 1978.

Thanks for the pics Big. What make and model is the rear rack?

It's a generic-cheap-o, BUT it worked well for me --> no complaints. I haven't used it except for that trip so can't attest to it's long-term durability. But I'll definitely pull it outta the closet should the need arise.

I like where you mounted it. Great idea.

Here's a link to the quick release seat post rack I have on my Wabi. It's $24, and is both sturdy and fairly light-weight:
