Holy moly fixed gears are really picking up!
I see a new fixed gear almost every day now. Today I saw two, including, for the first time, a girl on a fixie.
I remember last year I could count on one hand how many fixed riders were in the area.
I guess this is good news, although now I feel somewhat less elite.
Huzzah. Popularity is on the rise. At least, in Ann Arbor it is.

I know one guy who lives at the Trumbullplex that rides a conversion and the other day I saw some guy on an 05 Pista down the street from my house.

Also - I would expect Ann Arbor to have a slightly higher population of fixed riders than the rest of SE Michigan. It's really the only city that is bike friendly and bike-able.
Over the last 2-3 years I've noticed a few more people from Michigan (mainly east lansing) riding fixed. it's taken a while for it to catch on here.

Of course it is. Someone actually owns the house. It's not just a squatter or rental house. They do a few shows here and there but mostly community activism to help out Detroit.

Yay for girls on fixies! I can't wait to see another girl on a fixie here in Pittsburgh.
(I knew of one, but I only saw her once and I haven't seen or heard of her since.)

I just took a class at the velodrome out here, and while I'm not gonna start riding around Seattle's hills with a fixed gear I am definitely going to be back on the track!
There were about 30 folks in the class, including 5 or 6 women.
Just not sure where I'm gonna put that extra bike in the garage when I buck up and get one.

I finally saw my first non-BMX fixie last night. I live in Chattanooga, which is very hilly. I ran into the guy at a stoplight, and he completely SMOKED me!

i'm far from the only girl on a fixed out here- there's lots of those... but i'm definitely the only one on a purple bike with lime green lollipop colored bars... and i have a sneaking suspicion it's a theft deterrent.

This brings a thought to mind... how many of those new riders are influenced by BikeForums either directly or indirectly (by a friend who's on BF).
How many lurkers are out there? Come on, don't be shy.
