single speed racing

I just became aware of the single speed crit race in red hook Brooklyn and was wondering if anyone has tried racing like that. Seems intense, I have a greay old school frame worthy of a high end build and SS/Fixie would be an excellent idea.
Just curious if anyone has trued racing or been to the race

The rules do not permit conversions, track bikes only. Also, it must be a fixed gear, not singlespeed freewheel.

It's called a velodrome. Ever heard of it, hipster?

BMX racing is all singlespeed.

Are you talking about Redhook? They're actually a pretty big international race series now, with a lot of fast riders racing. They're also notorious for their crashes.

There is a few single speed races in weekend Cyclocross meetings. Portland's "cross crusades" has them ..

... a good place to start , get your CX skills & fitness built up without breaking a lot of components in crashes .

Yes, saw article looked like great fun . I read an article on the powerout put required to race at the speed and power rating was insane.

Thanks for the info I did not know that.
May be cheaper to buy a real fixie than retro fit the old frame. I saw some decent looking bikes in the $400 range.
