As for the podcast:
I have a link at home, although I'm not sure what it's going to be like. Dude seemed a little pissed off at me for DQ-ing him.
He was handing in his manifest and he hadn't marked down either of the questions, when I said something about it he started filling them in, but could only remember the first word in the name of the mural, and I was joking with him that I was going to DQ him, then I looked at his manifest closer and realized that he didn't have 26th/Ortega either, so then I was like, "oh sorry dude". He was like "but I collected all this stuff, doesn't that mean anything?" Sorry man, "Mandatory Checkpoints" means you gotta do it. He then proceeded to open his extremely shook up beer at me and sulk off.
I felt kinda bad, but it wouldn't have been fair to people like Colin or Pip who, after realizing they had missed 26th and Ortega, trekked back across town to hit it. Oh well...
The guy from Japan was cool, he came up after the race and asked if it was cool to write an article about it. His name was Yohei, but I don't have any other info about it. He was riding with a guy named Daniel and that otehr Japanese guy who didn't start because of a flat at the beginning....

Older dude, riding a brakeless SOMA fixed, riding around with two other guys on SS's, right? He seemed cool--we joked about how the podcast was just going to be him huffing around and cursing at cars that cut him off.

Hmm, maybe it was 21st and Chattanooga that he missed.
Terror? Did you see him at 21st and Chattanooga?
If so, then I will send him a shirt, since he came in just ahead of Colin and Cory....
I was pretty sure he was missing one manned checkpoint on his manifest, weird...

I had all the manifests and such going to the bar, but then handed them over, where I believe they were taken back to the prize area. I don't have them anymore.

Jkoshi, did you do that map with a GPS device and expedia?
Judah, do you have any tips for planning an event like this and being safe about it? I remember reading something about Team Puma's main organizer talking about how he was worried someone was going to die in traffic because they were pushing too hard and too crazy for the money.
I'd love to plan things but haven't seen a lot of tips about how to plan a successful scavanger hunt/race. Any tips/links?

Hmm, then the manifests are gone. Unless Kendall found them.
As for the shirts, if you want one, PM the_loin, he was the one who printed them up and he still has the screens for them.
Koshi, that's a great route map, I like how you put Zeitgeist on there. Glad you had a good time, and got a nice red Chrome to match the rest of your gear

No GPS, no Expedia, Harryhood sent me a bunch of Y!maps stitched together and I just used my memory to map my route. I made the overlay in Illustrator.

don't feel bad about it! I set it up all in advance. took about 15 min. I think I was the last to leave. still got 3rd. I think it is whatever works you. at the last race I did it on the fly and that didn't work well for me at all. this time i had the route in my head before I left and only needed to check the map once during the race.

Tips for a successful scramble:
1) Don't go out drinking until the wee hours of the morning of the race, and pass out on a friend's couch. If you do, at least get a good breakfast in you.
2) Plan your route before riding off with the manifest. If you're planning while riding, at least look at the whole thing, not just the first couple of points.
3) If you end up riding with someone, don't assume they know the city. They may be from out of town (hi Jessie). If they think all your ideas are great, then double check where they're from.
4) Climbing over twin peaks on a fixie is not big or clever.
Still had a good time regardless, props to Judah for everything.

Hey Pip, thanks for helping with signing everyone in at the start. I'm glad you raced. Hope you remember it fondly when you move across the pond.
Tips for planning:
1) Find people who want to race
2) Find some dependable people to work checkpoints
3) Find a few obscure alleys that are still named on most maps
4) Find a few intersections on top of hills
5) Find a few points of interest
6) Find a few easy intersections
7) Combine 3 - 6 into a manifest
8) Don't tell anyone the checkpoints

Last call for t-shirt orders. PM me for the details, request a size, most were black, if you can't handle black I can get something else, I have to order some anyhow. They are on American Apparel tees, they tend to be slimmer than most other cuts. Congrats to the winners, thanks to Judah for supplying the design, Nyrie did a great job on the spokecards, and everyone was super cool, a fun day in all, can't wait for the next one. Whoever is organizing the next hit me up about tees if you want some (and/or a marshal).
Also, the 2 winners will be getting tees with a checker flag on the sleeve, so look for them blasting past you in the near future.

BTW, Clayton, I just talked to Steve from Lovelife bags, seems that he knows you from your downhill skating days and from State, said to say hi, and he was happy to hear that his larger bag ended up with a friend.

Oh cool, yeah I know Steve! He used to get wheels from me. It's been a while I guess - last time I talked to him he was telling me that he was starting a bag company. Small world, very small world.

Whee, I get to ride this time. PM me and I'll give you my sponsor contacts, or I can contact them for you. Scavenger Scramble is mine though, you need your own name and format
