good price/LBS for a rear fixed wheel?
My knees are screaming in protest as I type this but I have a beater bike that is basically a back wheel away from a return to the heady days of my fixie past......Once that frankenstein urge hits it's hard to quell.
it's rather a p.o.s. frame so I don't need velodromisms. Just something round & true.....alloy would be luvley and I'd prefer 36 spoke & up as I am no gentle giant.
Ideally I would love a flip flop but am I right in guessing this would add substantially to price?
I was wondering what shops do decent fixie wheels cheap or if anyone has a decent old wheel they'd like to sell.
Gracias!

My Suzue SIL-SP --> Sun M13II was like $58 from my not so local LBS (and they had it the very next day) sans tire, tube, rim tape, cog or lockring. With everything it came to about $80-90, if I remember correctly. He even tensioned it properly before I left the shop. If I had known I'd like it so much, I'd probably have bought a better wheel.

Not bad! U can prolly add a bit due to the NYC markup factor but I could live with that. I'd want the most essential, stripped down thing because the frame is heavy anyway and it'd be out on the street a lot (neighborhood/bar bike/commuter/lender etc etc).

"Have you considered building your own? Try Sheldon's wheel building page... it is easier than it looks. I picked up a Nashbar hub on sale for next to nothing, a rim from ebay, and spokes from the LBS- and built a much better wheel than the Suzue basics hanging from the shop ceiling- for less money."
Filtersweep, I have built up wheels before but I mucked up rear wheels pretty bad. Even with the no-dosh thing I'd be a bit worried; my mech skills are mediocre at best!

for price of hub & rim & spokes... might as well get it well-built from IRO... 100$ + 3$ tube + discount 10$ tire = winner

I know for a fact it was $58 or $59, but the cheapest that I've seen the same wheel new online was for $80... If that were the case (and maybe even so...) I'd go with the IRO deal. I can't complain about the Suzue, though, it ended up lasting several thousand miles so far.

those look nice for the money. Do you feel the 32h is good for me? I'm about 210-215lbs. Hope to be shedding weight but for now, that's a whole lotta me.

I got a full set of the stock wheels off a Fuji Track (Formula hubs/Alex rims) w/ ties for $100 at my LBS. The deals pop up. Why don't you just go look?

Sweet deal! I've been too busy to poke around the shops - just graduated so hopefully will have more time to treasure hunt now.
