Considering purchasing first fixed gear
So there is a specialized langster in my area for sale for $300 that seems to be a perfect fit size wise.
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/5873503289.html This would be the most I've spent on a bicycle (at one time) but it seems to be good to go (read: I won't have to tinker/overhaul a bunch of crap like I had to for my commuter). I'm very interested in the cycling experience of a fixed gear bicycle however am also a steel bicycle devotee. Any recommendations whether this bicycle is a good value wrt resale? These are in the case that I go on to upgrade to a steel wabi or else if I become disenchanted with ss's Thank you Robin |
If it fits, yeah, go for it. My experience with those tires (they came with a Globe I once owned) was not stellar but they'll do til you find something better.
Edit: sorry, didn't read the part about resale value. Can't help there, but I've noticed that production ssfg's tend not to hold much resale value. I'd buy this to ride and I'm guessing you'd be able to get your $300 back if you keep it in good shape. |
It looks like a great bike! The value is defiantly there, I don't remember off hand what they go for new but that's a great deal. Hope it works out for you!

If it comes with the Look pedals, the cleats and that Garmin, hell yeah it's a good deal. Does it really fit you though? How tall are you? The only tinkering I can see that might need to be done is wrapping the bars. It looks like they put track grips on up to the hoods, because I can see the mount for the hood showing.

BTW, just looked at your sig. You're either REALLY unlucky or could really use this link:

That's a sick deal.

Looks like they retailed for 4-500 new. The bicycle is stock except for added computer, pedals, saddle bag, and brakes.
Thank you for the replies. Fingers crossed seller still has available! Will try and check it out sometime this week And yes, I'm familiar with that article now.. my bicycle security has been much improved since those losses... t_t |
If it comes with everything ready to go and not minus any key parts then, yeah, that seems like a pretty decent deal provided the frame and fork aren't cracked or bent and the wheels in good shape. If I were looking to buy and if it was in my size I'd consider it.
I'd offer him $275 and see if he bites though. |
Aha, the GPS was sold separately and is not part of the package
