skid friendly gumwalls?
 

I love gatorskins, great tires, but am on the hunt for some tanwalls that are skid friendly.

my best bet that I've found so far is Conti GP Classics, or it seems that at one point they sold the 4000's with a tan wall but can't find any for sale.

"Classic Look" + Skidding = oxymoron.

GP Classics won't hold up to skidding.

Pasela PT are the best you're gonna get and even those won't last very long because the rubber is soft.

In theory, Rivendell Ruffy Tuffy tires might work well. They have a kevlar belt, so the rubber is pretty heavy duty. But then you're spending a lot on nice tires to shred up, which doesn't make much sense to me.

As Scrod said, Pasela's may strike the balance between price/wear life.

Paselas or wait till you've outgrown skidding and throw down some cash on some nicer tires.

No tires are skid friendly. Skidding is bad for your tires. If you're going to do it a lot, you might as well not waste your money on good tires.

I wish the drift car guys would learn this.

Would learn not to use good tires? Depends on the level of car and driver.

Pro-level cars like those from Formula D have far too much horsepower and torque to run s*** tires. They have to be strong enough to last through a lap, wear even without breaking apart in chunks and have predictable traction throughout.

Idealists are often frustrated at the world the world and intentionally rotating a car doesn't make sense to me at a very fundamental level.

To each his own.

1. Choose any tire you want.
2. Be vigilant and think ahead so you don't have to skid.
3. Enjoy your great looking, great rolling tires for thousands of miles.

I used to skid on paselas, the tire 'sploded and separated entirely from the side wall.

You've never tossed a high horsepower car sideways on purpose, have you? Does it sort of defy logic? Sure. Is it all sorts of fun? You bet it is.


As for gum walls you can skid on, see the above recommendations.

If they're not sponsored by a tire company, they use used/ el-cheapo "burner" tires :)

This is the kinda stuff that makes you cheeks hurt from grinning do big. :D

When I was younger I always wanted a fast looking car with a great audio system, with decals and logos, and whatnot.

Now that I'm older, I want the blandest looking car that will blend in with everything on the road and a big enough engine to zip around when needed.

I like to speed and having a car that looks like everything else goes a long way in preventing speeding tickets.

I have said it before and I will say it again: If you don't skid your undies, why would you skid your bike?

I have had both of those. This last car I bought has two audio systems in it. One is a 500 watt stereo system with factory subs in the doors. The other is a 420hp 302 cubic inch V8 with an exhaust system. :)

I guess I got tired of blending in and decided that like bikes, life is too short to drive a boring car.

Hey, that's fine. I'm content with my car being a tool that carries my bikes and get's me to work on occasion. I really don't enjoy driving that much anymore.

To be completely honest, I'm considering a sprinter van for my next vehicle...then quit my job and just go ride bikes forever.

You have no idea how much I want to just get a Ford Transit van, take my bikes, and drive across the country and ride all of these cool places from singletrack to city streets, rails to trails, mountain climbs, grand fondos you name it.

This is how I spent my vacation last year, albeit in a Honda Civic, with only a road bike, and all within CA. Highly recommend.
