I have some track bars and i want to wrap them with cloth bar tape but i have two colors i want to mix together for a choice aesthetic.... anyone done this before and have a god how to?
Do a search for "harlequin wrap" or something of that sort. There was a thread about this not too long ago.
http://www.wastedlife.org/bike/harlequin/ -- here is a web-site that has the harlequin wrap howto.

damn, that's hot, but god help me, i don't think i have the patience or the basic motor skills to execute that. Maybe i'll just mix them together.
there is always the lazy bum method of just overlapping the two colors (having them remain parallel) and just wrapping as though they were one color. it's not totally trivial to get the two colors to stripe perfectly, but it's pretty easy in general.
Good luck terror! I've been thinking about doing it on my bars...but I really like the extra cush of the cork tape, so that's been my excuse for not making a mess of my bars while trying to execute that oragami!

thanks guys. i'm mixing red and gold. I really don't want to do this until i get my new stem. Also, while we are on the subject. where the hell did you guys find plugs to fit the end of nitto bars? Grrr nothing seems to fit.
the black velox plugs fit -- http://harriscyclery.net/site/itemdetails.cfm?ID=420. you can find them several other places, too. they screw to tighten. i think they're ugly as hell, but they are some of the best quality ends around.

The cheapo plugs that come with Cinelli cork tape work if you wrap the inside part in the cork before inserting.
the harlequin method was actually really easy after i got the first two wraps in. it gets repetative, like braiding hair. the double wrap is ugly, take the extra time to weave it. and it should work with cork tape if you pull it tight as hell

ya, i found some at a store yesterday but it seemed as though the diameter on my bars was too small. The guy at the store said i'd break it if i forced it so i didn't. maybe i just needed to force it. I think i'm going to attempth the harlequin after i get my stem. |
I've got some Milremo plugs in mine, similiar to Velox but not quite as ugly. They came on some other bars I bought so don't know if they're still available.
http://www.bikeville.com/stems.html -- they have a set of the milremo plugs in baby blue and also have a blue and a red set of cinelli plugs, which are nice looking. since you're going with red/gold for your color scheme, the red might be worth pursuing. i've ordered from them before, they're super nice and quick on shipping.

Jim PS: Did you use the instructions I posted? If so, are there any changes you feel would make it easier to follow? |
