Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cane Creek is the best! Super friendly staff and lots of knowledge. If you head is set on a new head set, set your head near your computer and head over to CaneCreek dot com and get set for some awesome headsets and the best rim brakes this side of the Pecos!

Also quick question:
What cog would you pair with a one of them there modern Campanoglos Record Pista crank? I mean EAI always comes to mind for quality but me thinks I want something a little more I-talian and I ain't talking about dressin'

Would you pick a EAI deluxe over dura-ace, and if so, why?

If you want anything bigger than a 16t, then you're definitely going to pick EAI over DA.

For sure. Right now I'm spinning out my 17t cog on downhills big time. I might drop to a 16t, but am debating over that since I'm moving to an area called 7 hills in a month or 2. Lol.

Last night I was riding fixed, and the crank felt a little wobbly toward the end of the ride. Checked it out today, and the drive side bolt was so loose I could turn it by hand. Had the bolts torqued to 250 inch pounds (at the recommendation of a local bike shop), and after checking Park's torque specs for a crankarm bolt, it should be 305-391 in-lbs. Did the arm just come loose from under torquing, or could it be that the crank tapers are worn out? BB is newish (installed last year) but the crank is at least 30 years old. Also, what would happen if the driveside crankarm did fall off? Guessing nothing good :-p

When it comes to crank arm bolts, blue Loctite is your friend. Hopefully you didn't damage your crank arm.

I'm guessing the arm came lose from under torquing the bolts. The BB spindle is probably fine but give it a look. If you have aluminum cranks maybe check the square hole to make sure it hasn't been deformed which could cause a little play after re-installation.

I wish I could buy it but I too have no want to use it. It would be a cool piece to put in a little display cabinet and stare at but I don't really want to push that low a gear and that vintage and rare a component.

Wondering about the Archetype/Gran Compe SF wheelset on RG... What's the weight limit on those? Think they'll hold a 200lb rider?

If it is 32 spokes and still handbuilt you should be fine! But @Scrodzilla would know best because he builds them. Most of my wheels are handbuilt and I am not a light rider and they all hold up fine at 32 spokes.

He's talking about the 20/24h Archetype/Gran Compe low flange set (I can't post a link because the mods will freak out and bombard me with messages about "breaking the rules").

There are a couple of guys who are about my size using those wheels on both the street and the track and the only time I had to do any serious work on one of them was after one guy crashed. They'll probably hold up fine if you don't smash over curbs, whip skid around every corner and deliberately aim for potholes.

Ok, good to know... I don't really jump curbs and don't skid around corners. I'm actually in the process of dropping weight too.. aiming for 185

Any recommendations for SSCX frames? Planning to build one up in a couple months. Looking for something with horizontal dropouts or track ends, canti posts, probably steel, preferably under $500 or so. Was thinking On One Pompino, but it looks like they don't make it anymore.

Don't let the marketing fool you, it can do the job if 120mm spacing is acceptable.

Thanks y'all. The Fredward looks pretty sweet. More braze-ons than I need, but definitely a cool frame.

Here you go so you ain't breakin' the rulez:

I dislike radially laced wheels nothing against anyone but just don't like the look of them. If the spokes don't cross they just ain't bauss!
