Not quite. Needs to be the even less common cable operated Bendix two speed, can't do it with a "kickback."

Nope, it has to be the even less common cable operated Bendix 2-speed. A kickback won't work.

From a quick inspection of the bendix kickback hub internals- it looks like you could fix it in the same way as the manual hub. Any guesses as to what riding that would be like?

According to Val at bikesmith you use the bendix barmounted shifter. It is my understanding that the hub shifts the same as it would normally but the freewheel has been brazed together.
