Opinions on unknown manufacturer/bike recommendation
Hi all, I'm a noob/not super knowledgeable and I'm looking for a somewhat affordable fixed gear after my schwinn madison that I had for 7 years got stolen over the weekend. I stumbled upon this guy selling his own brand of bikes on craigslist and am wondering if anyone can tell me (based on the limited specs) if its worth the money ($340).
I mostly just can't find any reviews anywhere and I think he must've just launched the brand in the past year or so, theyre called BK Duma Bicycles. Here's the website www. bkduma . com /shop/arj12u3pacurznlirjujsi54keln9r (sorry i guess im not supposed to post urls with less than ten posts so I broke it up) Apparently he charges anywhere from $400-440 in a store, and these are his 2016 models, so I'm just wondering if anyone thinks this is a reasonable buy for $340. Thanks! limited specs: Tires 700c 28c Headset: 1 1/8'' thread-less Necco Handlebar: 25.4 cm Forged Alloy Stem: 25.4 cm Forged Alloy Grip: High Quality PVC Brake Caliper: Front and rare Promax Crank: Alloy 48T Crank Arm: Alloy Spoke: Steel Rim: Alloy 40MM Chain KMC Z410 |
Crap frame, crap components. If you live in NYC, continue to search Craigslist.

the component list is too vague. and what is listed (neco headset, promax brakes) is bottom barrel.

But guys, it has High Quality PVC grips!

And yes the info in the specs is quite generic (alloy, alloy what?) and could be most anything although what is there sings "****". |
Lol, fair enough, this is why I was asking. And ya, i know the specs don't say much, thats all I really had to go with though and figured i'd throw it out there.
I bought a schwinn madison in good condition off ebay in like 2010 for around $200. Does anyone have any recommendations for something similar at like a sub-400 price point? Craigslist can be pretty spotty sometimes. |

not sure if anyone's still gonna check this, but I found an ad on craigslist for a 2012 bianchi pista, the asking price is $440, just wondering what people think if this price is reasonable.

For reference:
https://images.craigslist.org/00m0m_...l8_600x450.jpg It has the dual drawbacks of being 1) ugly and not very high quality but also 2) a Bianchi so the seller thinks he can get a higher price and it looks more attractive to thieves (which, as you said, you've already had a problem with). I call it an easy pass. Owner lives in my old neighborhood though. Wonder if I ever saw him. |
Note on Bikes Direct: "60% Off" isn't 60% off the list price of any bike for sale elsewhere. It's a minimally defensible figure comparing their product to a similar product. I own a Windsor The Hour which I bought just for yucks when I thought a "fixie" would be a novelty I'd use occasionally for short, flat rides. I've enjoyed thousands of miles on it, but all that's left of the original bike is the frame. Most of the rest of it was replaced within a year. If you want an inexpensive bike as I did, Windsor's a good choice. Just don't think you're getting a $900 bike.

Good points, but the bikesdirect offerings are still a lot better than most other "fixie" offerings at the same pricepoint.
