Old single speed to Fixed gear
Hey,
Recently, I've finished reconstructing one of 80's road bike, and I've made it single speed too, all the parts(except cables and stuff) I've used are the original parts, also I had repainted the frame, cleaned all the bearings and rebuilt them. So the whole bike is in pretty good shape. The bike has rear dropout's and I'm wanting to convert it to fixie. So I wanna ask if I would be able to do it just with a new back hub and spokes according to the old rim I have. Or if it is dangerous etc. So I would have to buy whole new back weel. Also I would like to ask for recommendations for some nice fixed/ flip flop hubs on the budget that are out there. Thanks. |
I'm assuming that you mean "horizontal" rear dropouts. Yes, you can either build up a new rear wheel with a track hub that has threading for a left-hand threaded lockring or buy a new complete wheel, which is a lot simpler. You should be able to find a decent wheel for under $100.

Ok, thanks :) Do you have any suggestions for hubs/ wheels (with simple box shaped rim, I donīt want any crazy deep section wheels or aero spokes :D) Or maybe which brand or online shop to avoid, or which is good :D I am new to all this, so all i can find on the internet right now is aliexpress or ebay, where are mostly novatec hubs which I donīt know much about. Also should I consider changing the crank set, because the bike has pinned cranks, which i worry about if it can handle fixed riding.
