Kids having fun?

Tonight while I was out riding my fix I turned down a sidestreet and heard cars turn after me with engines roaring. So I pull a U turn in the middle of the street because it sounded like the cars were coming at me fairly fast and I wanted to atleast see if they were about to hit me or not. I had plenty of room to turn and get my speed back up before they passed me and about the time they pass me I hear water balloons start to hit the ground. I didn't get hit but this is kind of my first experience with this kind of thing and was wondering what some of the people on the forum would do. I have my own ideas about what I should do, I just got out of the USMC, but I don't know if those things would be acceptable. I live on a college campus and I know that it's probably just some drunks out messing around but I really don't think that this is cool.

throw ninja stars at them then eat pie while standing over the carnage.

One night last week I was walking down to my local burrito place, and I come to this perforated metal gate along the street just a split second after another lady is passing it. I hear a splash and the lady jumps back a bit and curses. These kids were throwing waterballoons against the metal gate and raining on random people. I mean, I think waterballons are pretty awesome (Even though I have a deviated septum resulting from waterfights gone wrong) but thats pretty sissy to be hiding in the dark behind a metal gate and hitting random people. Kids these days. NO RESPECT.!

Doesn't that seem a lot better still? Even further more better would be pulling water balloons out of a messenger bag and using equal force to quell this menace!

kennethalan 06-07-05 01:01 AM

water balloons full of pie. and pbr.

HereNT 06-07-05 01:10 AM

That is a waste of PBR, sir.

And a waste of Pie.

You will see where my priorities lie in the capitalization.

talipdx 06-07-05 01:19 AM

HA! agreed the PDR doesnt deserve the disrespect....

but yeah Ive been out riding on weekend nights and had several incidents where HS kiddies or anyone else has taunted/tossed ***** at us..... its really fun when they have a red light down the block....... even more fun when you see what u-lock + sideview mirror equals ;)

HereNT 06-07-05 01:27 AM

+40 feet for the mirror?

talipdx 06-07-05 01:41 AM

well you add catchin them at a red light down the block then subtract one mirror when you add said u-lock and you = justified.... simple math

I could really go for some whitecastle right now

Jaminsky 06-07-05 02:35 AM

mind bullets dude...mind bullets

talipdx 06-07-05 02:43 AM

Ive only seen somebody get shot twice in portland so its not so relevant... plus you can ride....... the chances they can aim isnt very likely with current social mentality.... ;)

It's funny because I always think about u-lock justice but I rarely if ever do anything. I suck it up. There are quite a few reasons but I've had friends be chased by drivers after a simple finger gesture and people get out of cars.

In some neighbourhoods I bike through, I dare not try anything.

Guns and gangs are very real in Chicago.

Making it to wherever I'm going sans confrontation and accident is a good ride. The traffic here and drivers' egos are just too big.

DancesInTraffic 06-07-05 08:45 AM

Yeah...U-lock justice is something I keep in mind, but actually doing such a thing just isn't me... although...

Last week I was riding past a bus stop and 2 little kids jumped up and threw a bunch of trash at me while laughing and yelling. I got hit in the eye with a pop tab (it hurt, honest). I prieviously though I was unable to skid my bike but at that moment I locked up my rear wheel and jumped off my bike. I immediatly went for the u-lock, dropped my bike and ran at the bus stop. 2 of the little rejects saw me coming and took off. The other just kind of stood there and looked at me with a blank look. I was pretty sure he was the one who had just been sitting there and his little friends were the perpetrators. So...I stood there and settled down for a moment. The bus showed up and I gave the kid a little speech about how his friends were *******s to do something like that then I let him get on the bus. The other two had circled around and were hiding in the bushes. I saw them but didn't go after them. I figured I'd just stand there with my u-lock out...and since I didn't have any place to go in a hurry (I was on my way to harvard square to listen to some music) I just stayed there while bus after bus came by. They obviously did have somewhere to go and one of them looked like he was going to try to sprint past me when the next bus came. I sort of tightened my grip on the lock. I wasn't going to chase them down. Finally they gave up and wandered off towards another bus stop. Ineffective justice, but at least I wasted some of their time. I hope they got wailed on for being late coming home for dinner or something.

You've just got to let it go. Kids are *******s to everyone, they would have done the same if you were walking, or in a car or whatever. You could damage them or damage their car and they'd still be *******s and you'd feel like they had controlled you, which, of course, they would have.
I was driving a few weeks ago and a group of four teen somthings on foot blew off their red and justwalked across the street in rush hour traffic. I rolled right up to them and yelled out the window and they yelled back (being called b**** by a bunch of juvenile delinquents who are probably going to land in jail within a few years is both comical and deeply insulting). I'm sure if I'd gotten out to confront them I would have gotten a beating, but even if I hadn't I doubt that I would have been able to get any sort of satisfaction out of it.
The problem is that you just can't fix them. They're broken. They're why our country is doomed.

Piss in the water bottle - - squirt the offender.

BostonFixed 06-07-05 10:22 AM

Just a few days ago, a car blew by me with inches to spare, and yelled mother****er of something like to that to me.

I booked it up to the next light where the car was stopped, drew my u-lock from my bag, and stopped alongside the passenger side window. Inside were a few of my friends, laughing their asses off. I wasn't laughing; I shoulda bashed their windows in anyways. it wasn't very funny to me. :o

ya'll need to become familiarized with the "riding rock". i used to always have a rock on me that was easy to access while riding around baton rouge cause i'd get messed with so often by folks in cars. i only really used it once, after having a 40 bottle thrown in front of my bike, but i broke out the back window of a truck and that one window has made all the other injustices against me fade away! of course i had to jump some train tracks and ride across a golf course to escape... but it was an adventure!

colinm 06-07-05 11:11 AM

Dude...like, woah. My luck , I'd be shot.

stronzo 06-07-05 11:15 AM

one night a few months ago i was biking home from work (pedicabbing), about 3:30AM. i was flying through the west campus neighborhoods, pretty tired and not really paying attention since the streets looked deserted. suddenly, an object wizzed past my left ear, missing by a couple of inches, and splashed on the pavement beside my bike. looking up, i heard laughing coming from a third floor apartment whose rent is probably triple my own. as the realization set in that i would have probably gone over my handlebars had the water balloon hit its mark, rage almost overcame fatigue and common sense. can't say i've ever wanted to hurt anyone, personally, more than i did then. it's probably best i didn't, though. moral of the story: water balloons can kill, kids.

I'm putting missle launchers on my conversion.

I used to believe in street justice. I went to jail twice. I was not convicted of anything because I didn't do anything wrong in either case, but going to jail and paying a lawyer and missing work sucked. It just added injury to the insult. After the second arrest, when I was actually charged with a felony had to go to court, I had to pay $750 to defend myself, I decided just about any indignity or BS was worth putting up with, because the alternative, however satisfying it might be for a moment, ended up with far too much regret.

Oddly, the time when I really did deserve to be locked up for a street retailiation (and there was at least one of them) I escaped.

If you're going to do it, change your clothes right away and get off the street ASAP.

Over the weekend my friend was cruising down water street on his way home when a cab rolled by and some drunk ******* frat boy in the back yelled something smart out the window about my friends sexual orientation. So he catches the cab at the next light and hawks up a nice big fat luggie and lets it fly through the window and right onto the frat boy. True story.

Find an alley, change, then go home. Better yet, keep your cool in the first place.
