Quick Nitto seatpost question

I'm looking at two Nitto seatposts right now (because both seem to have the same type logo), the S83 and the S92. My fit on the frame may or may not leave me with part of the logo in the seat tube, so I'm curious to know if the logo is laser-etched or silkscreened. Here's a photo:

Thanks in advance!

That's etched.

Thanks! Not a dealbreaker, just wanted to know in advance.

You could still damage the post by inserting it, then twisting it out, although modern bikes seem to have better finishing of the seat tube than vintage bikes.

I don't understand. My question was purely aesthetic- it dealt with whether the logo could be removed because part of it might be sticking into the seat tube with the height set properly.

And purely aesthetics, many vintage seatposts have zigzag scratch marks from insertion and removal which I think may be due to poor finishing of the seat tubes.

You can just sand it off and then polish it to an equal or greater gloss level. It's very easy and quick.

Or you could just not worry about silly things like that and ride your bike.

I'm not talking about insertion marks or poorly finished seat tubes. The post is new anyway, so there'll be no marks to speak of unless somebody shorter than me decided to ride my bike without my permission. I was asking whether a logo was silkscreened or etched.

Well, I like Nitto's simple finish as it is, but it isn't quite that deep. Put another way: The Internet is close at hand and easy to use. My interest in having either a whole logo or none at all was enough to post the question, but not high enough for me to alter a nice post I might want to sell later.

I do plan to buy the post and use it regardless, but it isn't a silly thing. I wish people would stop the practicality games with bicycles. All of us want our bikes to look the way we want them to look, and differences between people's approaches to appearance are a matter of degree rather than of kind.

The only differences between the bikes I build up and the model cars I used to build is that I ride the bikes. But the build is every bit as important. If it didn't matter, I'd just call BikesDirect- I'm not a racing pro.

I spent 50 dollars on bottle cages that look like cats, so I'm not gonna argue with you there.

.

Then why did you want to know if it was etched vs silkscreened?

I have to see these. Pic?

If it was silkscreened, I'd have just acetone wiped it.

I DO realize I could have just not asked, and bought the post in November, but I'm out of bike-spending money 'til the first of the month, and all I can do is search eBay and ask questions on the web, thus the thread. It's not a high-end frame but this post fits a lugged, threaded frame (and matches a forged quill stem IMO) so much better than a Thomson (and is cheaper, new anyway) that I'm going to pull the trigger. I'll show the bike when it's done.

Hence my confusion.

Those are pretty rad too. I'd rock them on a cross bike.

checoles 10-16-17 03:23 AM

They do Krakens/Squids, and a Bird as well.

Great cages.

To each his own. I care a bit about how my bike looks too but would never be bothered by something like that.

Also, if you think part of that Nitto logo is going to be inside your seat tube, maybe you should be more concerned with the possibility of having the wrong size frame. The "N" is only about 110mm from the rail position.

Great. Now I kinda want one of the black cats on my cross bike. Or maybe that copper sparrow.

Oh, okay. That won't stick in at all- good to know in any case.

I have owls, birds (and the new sparrows) and just picked up some of the lucky cats because when they first came out QBP sold out of them right away and left me high and dry for new PDW cages.
