11 Speed to Single

Looking to convert my planet x carbon 11speed SRAM rival to a single speed. Would appreciate ANY help as it's my first conversion. My only experience with a single/fixed was a Specialized Langster steel which was great. So would be happy with a similar ratio.

{Thanks for the help folks. Will prob sell the 11speed and look for a readymade locally**

Vertical or horizontal dropouts? That's pretty much the starting point of figuring out what you need for your project. With vertical dropouts, you need a chain tensioner, eccentric bottom bracket, or eccentric hub.

There's no way it has horizontal dropouts unless it's a TT frame. Singlespeed conversion kits usually come with a chain tensioner. Look for one that's compatible with SRAM 11 speed. If you can't find one, either get a bunch of cassette spacers and a tensioner or get a cheap rear wheel that will work with something like this: Nashbar Single-Speed Kit - Nashbar

If your frame takes BB30 or PF30 then you can use an eccentric adapter so you may have chain tension adjustment without using an unsightly tensioner. This isn't the cheap route to take though. This is a very common solution for SS mountain bike conversions.

I love SS/FG bikes a lot but taking apart a perfectly good 11 speed road bike to bodge together a conversion to single speed is just silly. If you want a single speed, get one. They are easy to find with nice track ends where you can adjust chain tension as the good lord Allah intended.

Get another Langster, they are great bikes and dedicated SS/FG platforms. The steel version was great and you might be able to pick one up or one of the many steel fixed gears out there that aren't total crap.

100% agree with this, but everyone gets all huffy when you try to tell them rational things.
