Fixed Gear W/ Sliding Dropouts?
Hey
I'm trying to build a new fixed cross frame, and I'm wondering if there's any issue with running a fixed gear with sliding dropouts? I'm mainly worried that skidding forces might pull the dropouts forward. If you have any experience with these setups please let me know how it went. I haven't seen any online so it guess it's not common practice. -thx |
Actually driving chain tension will exceed braking chain tension because of the rear wheels ability to skid with less force than what's needed to do a wheelie. It's a question of geometry and basic physics.
Since driving tension is inversely proportional to chainring size (leverage), and guys use these dropouts with small myn bike triples, I'd have no concerns about using them with a large chainring, fixed or free. |
