Hope Richard got some Big $ from these rubes for selling Wabi.

We still think it's 2003 down at Wabi,
And sweet fixies still the biggest thrill of all"

RIP Wabi.

To add insult to injury, they have dropped the 42cm 650c Wabi Classic, so basically if you are under 5’-6” you are out of luck, because the smallest frame size is 49cm c-c, which fits like a typical 52cm with a correspondingly longer top tube. I feel very fortunate to have purchased my 650c Wabi Lightning when Richard Snook was still at the helm and you could get a custom build at a reasonable price. This is truly a sad day for shorter people like myself.

I can't believe I slept through this entire metamorphosis. Not that I'm in the market (or will be for the forseeable future) they (OK, the Classic) used to be coveted by me.

What's next....Leader seatpost clamps?

In all fairness, they still sell the Classic which they now call the Road, although they have jacked up the price quite a bit.

Me-too-ism to chase a moribund market with premium prices while resting on Richard's laurels for road machines seems a fatal combination of errors for a formerly respected niche player to me.

I don't see the big deal. Ignoring the ridiculous Encore wheel upgrade it's just the Classic or "Road" frameset with riser bars, black components, platform pedals/straps, and thickslicks.

I kind of like it, seems like a nice get around bike comparable to the All-City Big Block. Would be nice if they offered an alternative tire selection but they do specify you can request customizations, so maybe they will swap them for the 28mm Panaracer Pasela tires.

The issue is this forum has pointed to Wabi again and again as a very solid, affordable FG bike from a brand with good customer service and a disregard for stupid trends.

Then they put out something that incorporates pretty much everything we hate in one package and charge $1500 for it.

Choice of two "sick colors" and "superb components," all for less than $1500? These things should be flying off the shelves!

...unless they misjudged the market, and it turns out most fixie riders are in one of two groups:

- College kids who want to spend as little money as possible. Street cred and bling are of paramount importance, even at the cost of performance and value.

- Regular adults (and a few retro-grouches) who value durability, sometimes light weight, and always high quality... meaning stuff that works in the real world, not just what reads well on a website. We're willing to spend a bit more, or even a lot more, in some cases.

This Wabi Urban model seems to be spec'ed for the first group and priced for the second, making it unlikely to appeal to either one.

More fair comparison, and I assume you can request 28mm Panaracer Pasela tires on the Wabi instead of the hated Thickslicks. I give All-City the edge but frame and components between the two are fairly comparable.

$895

$959

I agree the "Urban" name and description along with showing it by default with the Encore wheels was a poor choice. They need some marketing help badly. The fact they don't show a geometry chart for their products is very amateur hour. Hopefully with some clicks of the mouse and keyboard strokes they can get their image back on track because they appear to be nice bikes otherwise.
