Looking for some thicker grips
Would like to find some grippy grips that are a bit thicker than the stock ones that came on my dawes with riser bars. I've got a bad wrist and am trying to cut down the ride harshness a bit. Thanks for any help!

ESI extra chunky grips are worth checking out if for some reason you don't like the ergo shape of the ergon grips. Oury, too. They definitely are extra grippy, but they seem to go gooey a little soon in my experiences
|
Sounds like oury grips are right up your alley.
Some people don't like them because they're *too* thick. They're dirt cheap for a set too. |
I second Oury grips
|
Oury grips are good, but give me waffle hands.
|
Oury's are great till they start decomposing. They are very thick. ESIs look like you can get them in Chunky or Extra Chunky. Never tried them but some people seem to love.
Ergon's are the velcro orthopedic shoes of grips. Not very sexy but comfortable. They aren't particularly sticky or cushiony, the shape just spreads pressure over a wider area. Used them for a bit when I was having some wrist issues but they really are ugly and perhaps a sign of a bad fit. |
And they get kinda goopy after several months

If you are open to a "Pistol" style grip, these are quite large. The Kraton rubber is a great blend of firm and tacky. There are three sizes. I use the medium, but this is the biggest.

Oury grips are horrible the only good things about them are they are cheap and made in the US. ESI is made in the US but also doesn't get sticky and nasty. However Ergon grips are supremely comfortable especially if you have wrist issues.

Thanks for suggestions everyone! I decided to order a pair of the ESI extra chunky grips.

Seriously, though, Oury are great grips. |

Seriously, though, Oury are great grips. They aren't though. Sticky grips that twist and turn are not my definition of a good grip. They are MUSA which is great but they don't last. Try some Ergon grips for a while and tell me they aren't the bee's knees! |
Tried Ergons before, honestly hated them. Different preferences, different experiences, it's all good. I've never had the trouble with Ourys that you've had. And even if I liked the feel of the Ergon grips, I wouldn't be able to get past the appearance. I admit that the aesthetics are part of why I don't like them.

They may look different but set up properly, comfort wise they are king. |
Currently running some cheapo knockoffs of the PDW grips just because they were available when I needed grips in a pinch, but I can't recall ever having much stickiness. Or maybe I just didn't notice much? I do usually ride with gloves, though, and have run some sets of grips long enough that they wore through down to the bar.

ODI Vans grips are pretty comfy
|
this weekend I learned the hard way that ESI chunky are not ideal for heavy rain. In normal use, you can see they absorb the sweat (easy to see, since the black one is actually gray). But in heavy rain, they get soaked and then slippy as hell. I loved the ESIs, but if you ride a lot in the rain, things can get scary...

is gonna be better than most other flat bar grips if you want a thicker grip that isn’t slippery. (Kind of important in BMX, after all). And plenty of flangeless options. |
ODI Long Neck Super Soft grips are great but they are definitely thinner than Oury's or other grips like that so not sure if they would meet the OP's needs. The rubber compound is amazing though.
