As many SF folk know, Travis and co. at Freewheel Hayes have been lacing some pretty sick wheels. He's put together a little site to showcase some of the nice work they've been doing.

Enjoy.

I'd just paint a chain, if I were you! Get a small brush and some enamel paint, and go to town. If you just paint the big links there is nothing for it to rub against, and it won't wear off too fast. Though you'll have to keep things ludicrously clean.

peace,
sam

Very nice. Marcus at Yojimbo's here in Chicago has just got some crazy stock in.

Deep V's in red, white, non-machined black, non-machined gold, pink and his newest ones are apple green and a dark purple. I'll take photos next time I'm out there.

He's awaiting a shipment from Phil for some deep red Phil's too.

And he built up my pink Phil's. Some photos of what he's got or built (black bike is mine):

Travis has a nice selection of Velocity rims, both with and without brake surfaces. Also, nice thing about the Bay Area is that Phil Wood is in SJ, so we see the new Phil stuff pretty much as soon as it comes out. I love Freewheel Hayes, but I wish they were open on Sunday....

So supposedly - the company phil works with anodizes lots of other random metal-type parts like door handles etc. So phil will talk to shops that it knows likes colors and say: yo, they are about to anodize a batch of red doorhandles - do you want red hubs? And shop would say - yeah throw me in 3. i think they are only marked up $30 to consumer. So if there is a particular color you want you go to Travis and say - I want yellow, and he will throw you on a list, and you wait patiently for a yellow order.

I believe they were a one off made to match a frame of the same paint scheme.

Yep - Phil sends out in batches. Marcus is on hold for 3 sets of deep red ones he ordered and is waiting on all the other vendors who want sets too so Phil can send them out all at once in bulk which is better for them cost-wise I'm sure.
