Fixed gear missing link
 

I wqs just pondering about if you ride fixed gear and you chain has a missing link, if you back pedal or skid too hard won't the missing link come off or detach? Any ideas?

No, it still pulls tight, but at the bottom section instead of the top.

The fixed gear drive-train is simple technology, get your chain tool out and install your chain the Old School way (vid below).

Been using master links for many years without any issues. The strength of a master link is the same as any other link so there's no reason for it to decouple based on the force exerted on it. Also the force is a pull, whether pedaling forward or backward and in order to remove the master link it needs to be pushed off from the side.

Not sure there's true merit to this but I've been warned about removing the chain via master link repeatedly though, as constant flexing of the clip could weaken it and cause potential problems. Never really had that issue though because I rarely remove a chain unless it's time for a new one.

If you are skidding you will make brown marks in your underwear. Your bike will be fine but your tidy whiteys will no longer be tidy or white, big shame. I guess that is why Al Gore invented brakes so we no longer have to leave a brown poopoo streak in our undies to come to a stop!

Anytime someone mentions "skid" you must get an alert in order to insert your overly used tidy whitey jokes. Can't you come up with something new every once and awhile?

No pulls it tighter. I use the missinglink on my 710sl chains and skid so hard even veganbikes tighty whiteys are no longer tidy :)

Edit: Removing and reinstalling a missinglink too many times might not be advised. I've done it a few times for easier cleaning of the chain and noticed it started to not have the same "snap" when closing so I replaced it.
