Wheelset Suggestions!

Hello everyone, I am looking to buy a new wheelset for my bike but I frankly don’t know which one. My budget is $300. I was hoping to buy a new miche pistard wheelset but I do not know where to. So I looked on citygrounds and saw the Velocity DeepV 700c NMSW Wheelset. Does anyone have good experience with that wheelset? New suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

There are many sets of quality wheels, including some in the range of $300 or less, here:

I have a set of Velocity Deep V rims (with machined sidewalls) on a bike that I ride almost daily. They're good. Very strong and pretty aero, but kind of heavy.

What kind of riding are you doing? Race track? Easy pace on smooth roads? Thirty miles a day including hills at vigorous pace? Do you cross lots of railroad tracks and like to bunny hop curbs, or baby your bike? Are you 130 pounds or 330? These are all important considerations when choosing wheels.

What are you looking for in this new wheelset that your old wheelset doesn't do? What are your intentions for this wheelset? Do you plan on racing? Are you just riding it on the streets? Do you run brakes or do you stain your underwear? What is your weight and riding style?

Those are some of the important questions to ask and answer for yourself.

Velocity Depp V rims are of good quality but heavy but you can generally build a stronger wheel because you have shorter spokes (however cannot speak to citygrounds for quality of their wheels) If strength is your goal a good quality high flange 32h hub laced with SapIm Strong or DT Swiss Alpine III spokes and locking brass nipples to Velocity Deep V rims will likely be a pretty damn durable wheel that could take serious abuse. Of course cheaper machine built wheels will likely not be as durable so that can be a factor. Scrodzilla who is a regular poster around these parts runs a shop called Retrogression and hand builds wheels for fixed gear bicycles but there are also a ton of other wheel builders including some folks at Velocity.
