Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I found an outdoor track to ride on tonight!!!

It's a school track with a concrete surface in reasonable condition.
It doesn't have banked curves and it has sand on it in places making
those sections slippery. I had to leave because of a thunder storm,
but it will get plenty of usage now that I have permission from the
local police deptartment to ride there now.

I'll have to take the Motobacane Mirage out next time. It will be fun to
test my legs running it's 52/16 (88 inch) gearing. Hopefully the rain will
clean off some of that sand. On a clean track 30 mph laps might be possible.
Of course the Nomade would look sweet there too if I put the matching
tri spoke front wheel on it. It runs a 52/18 and would also be fast.

I'd love to ride on a real indoor track someday.
The closest we have is an outdoor race track that has bike races.
I haven't been yet. I'm also not sure they run fixie races or just geared.

It's a safe place to recover from an injury. It gives me less distractions to deal with.
My shoulder was crushed and rebuilt last July and has limited motion and nerve damage.
My legs are more than happy to ride 40-50 miles on the road, but the rest of me says no.

there's one of those outdoor running tracks being built over here in chinatown. Can't wait to try it, even if it does suck.

bring a broom. get the sand off the track. it's a really simple thing to do to keep you from hurting yourself. seriously.
