fixie conversion questions

I am looking for a few things for my fixed gear conversion. Where can I find a axel that fits a 8 speed hub, the axel needs to be long enuff to thred nuts on the end. (how long would that be I might get one from my lbs). Also Any ideas wher I can pick up a cheap mtb style break lever.

thanks
Chris

this probably isn't the best place to find out axle lengths for 8 speed hubs (try road or mech forums, or look for manufacturer's spec sheets on websites)...as for levers, flea markets, used bins at bike shops, garage sales, craigslist, ebay, etc

Your LBS should have them in stock. Make sure you get a good one, I stripped 2 cheap ones before getting a nicer stainless one. About the lever, any old BMX/MTB lever will work. When buying your axle ask if you can dig around for something in the back. All the good ***** is back there.

A good shop can help you with both items.
Why are you using an 8-speed hub?

I'm just being cheep and have a nice bike that has the group going to hell so I was going to bind the freewheel/cassette and use it as a fixie comuter ( 4 miles round trip). I had a friend who found a frame but it is a size small and I need a seat and post, 27 in ft wheel, new chain rings( oval ) bars and stem and may be more.

Were can I find a half link I dont know if I need one but I would like to know where to find one.
