My first fixie experience!
 

Well after anxiously waiting over a week my first fixie came via UPS today. After finally piecing the parts together I was ready to hit the road and try it out. Im coming from a $15 thrift store 10-speed roadbike I picked up a couple months ago to get me between home, work and college and it served me valiantly but after riding this new bike the first thing I asked myself was "WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE!" Riding this bike is one of the best feelings I ever had. Im not an avid biker, before buying my previous bike I hadnt ridden one since I was a little kid. The first thing I learned was that momentum is no joke! I didnt realize how much of a hill my apartment entrance is until I started rolling down and couldnt keep up, thank god for that front brake or I wouldve been done for! I was surprised at how fast I picked up on the idea of constant peddling. The only times I would instinctivley break my stride and try to coast were if I was riding over a bump. Other than that I was doing very well with speeding up and slowing back down without the brake, on flat ground of course :) . I was pretty confident riding with traffic as well. My town is pretty close quarters with parking on both sides of a 2 lane road and basically all one way streets. The only time I had to come out of my toestraps was riding slowly next to parked cars and cars waiting at a redlight, I got alittle hesitant and started to lose my balance. Took a pedal to the calf too, ouch!! Besides that it was the most fun Ive had in a long time. The bike is 10 times lighter than my roadbike which I didnt even notice until I lifted it up to throw it in the garbage! Once I get used to mounting and getting in my toestraps without fuss and get used to my toe sometimes touching my front tire on turns Ill be good to go!

This is what I got, it was $85 off ebay. I figure it was a good idea to start with something cheap to make sure I like it.

nice! is that an applecart ride? if it is make sure you go over it and tighten everything down.

What is it like living in the same town as those MTVtards from Bam Margera show

Yeah its an Applecart. I went to the bikeshop and had them help me out with everything.

And to thelung: Most of the people dont really care but the little kids go nuts whenever Bam and crew are around. They all try to be like them so we have 10 million 12 year old troublemakers around here.

That bike was on its last limb. It scared me riding it to work everyday. Everything on it would have to be replaced.

my friend got a bike from that guy, went to skid down a hill and the cog spun right off... the guy doesn't wrench his cogs on tight enough, nor does he use potent enough lock tite i guess... and the brake was sketchy at best.

what a great business, taking 30 bucks worth of bike and selling for up to 6x profit!

I heard some of the arguments against his bikes and for right now, its what I had to get. I dont have to know how at this point to build my own, Im a college kid so I dont have money to drop for a new track bike, and I needed one immediately because of my living situation. Once I get more familiar with the bike I will look to update but for now it will do. I did check all bolts and things to make sure it was tight before I rode though.

A lot of Fixies gather at Iron Hill sometimes....
Im not sure what thier schedule is but sometimes there are
a lot of them out front.
Any of the parking garages on High St. at nite would be good places
to get your mad Fix-Fu skeelz on ......

Wow really? I didnt know that. I see a lot of regular cyclists around but never any fixie riders. Ill make sure to ride around Market and High st more often. Id love to find some people to ride with or whatever.

They are not there as much as the Lycra Rocketeers but there have been more than
a few on occasion.
I usually head into Waste Chester from the thriving metropolis of Sadsbury every sunday
to hang out with my son and have a cup of coffee at Brew Ha Ha. Im not this Sunday
'cuz I have acres of grass to cut. If you ever see a black Surly Cross-X with a rack on the
back that'll prolly be me. Ill buy you a cup of coffee and let you see what type of rider
you DONT want to become...haha :D
Do you go to WCU ? I used to (mis)manage the print department on Matlack St. there
a while back.
