House of Track?

What are people's experience? The prices are quite good, so I'm a little skeptical. I know about his EAI issues.

wangster 06-29-05 08:57 AM

there was a thread with the owner posting a while back. He basically made enemies of everyone and left the forum in disgrace. search for house of track or something about trackbikeking on ebay.

dolface 06-29-05 08:58 AM

neal's awesome. i ordered a bunch of stuff from, it turned out he couldn't get most iof what i wanted, so he sent me a set of mks toeclips (which i DID want) for free.

s2sxiii 06-29-05 09:00 AM

it's gonna turn out that he can't get anything, if he's routinely gonna publish wholesale prices and try to undercut everyone else. this has been discussed before. Caveat Emptor, as always.

mcatano 06-29-05 09:07 AM

I think he has actually gone and deleted a lot of his old posts.

If you want a great product, shipped quickly, for a low price then House of Track is the place for you. If you're into track related drama and would rather sit around speculating on whether the fellow who runs the place is a.) courteous, b.) insane, c.) a good businessman, d.) a benevolent human being, e.) a brilliant linguist, f.) drunk most of the time, g.) self absorbed, or h.) actually the robot maid from the Jetsons, then I suggest you search the forums and copy and paste all related evidence into a word document to be distributed on the forums.

I've had several good experiences ordering from him both when he was on ebay and since he's moved to houseoftrack.com.

South Fulcrum 06-29-05 10:10 AM

I'm a fan of House of Track. They're great!

Pat Eisenhauer 06-29-05 10:11 AM

I had a mixed experience with them but they proved honest and I would buy from them again.

I had bought a fork from them right around the time they lost their eBay account.

They responded to my initial emails and said everything was okay, after about a month of waiting and only 1 or 2 follow up emails, I contacted them saying please send me the fork or refund my money or I was going to have to go through paypal to get my money back. Without any more prompting I got an apology, a fork AND my money back.

The only thing I would suggest to them (and I know they are probably reading this) is that only one person should be responding to the emails and it should not be the guy who posted on the thread referenced here.

I would generally get two responses, one short, to the point and polite. Then another long, rambling, and very unprofessional one, lacking in capitalization and punctuation. When one is having problems with an order from an online store and recieves an email like that it is really not reassuring and it reflects badly upon the business as a whole.

Good experiences here as well.

Paul And Pista 06-29-05 10:33 AM

House of Track/TrackBikeKing have been good to me as well. My only complaint is that they rarely seem to check or respond to email. I called and the person I spoke with (Neal?) was very friendly and helpful.

FUJI 06-29-05 11:28 AM

Has anyone else had numerous problems getting through to them on the phone? Anyone else getting error messages intermittently (like, if you tried right now)?

tbk 06-29-05 11:44 AM

I thought oh sh1t when I got the mail from ebay saying trackbikeking had been removed, but a few days later my goods arrived through the post. No problem at all.

shants 06-29-05 01:27 PM

house of track is the jam.

Mr. Fusion 06-29-05 01:31 PM

I went with the IRO pedal combo. I bought my wheels from Tony so I know what I am getting myself into. When I have the option, I generally don't support companies/people that don't respect accountability.

baxtefer 06-29-05 01:33 PM

if it wasn't for bipolar "nealz" I'd be more willing to give them a try. Great prices, free shipping to Canada, but those rants of his put me off.
good to hear that you guys have had some positive experiences. maybe i'll eventually reconsider.

B17 06-29-05 11:55 PM

I ordered some stuff from House Of Track before (I think it was before) his big blow up with EAI. The guy I talked to was pretty long-winded, but I got my gear within a few days of the order, and some stickers to boot. I'd buy from them again, and plan on doing so in the very near future.

kennethalan 06-29-05 11:59 PM

I had a good experience with them. Neal emailed me personally within minutes of my online order at some ridiculously late hour one night. Then he called me the next day to confirm and threw in a set of MKS toe clips with my pedal order for free. I suggest them.

.shawn. 06-30-05 03:11 AM

I ordered some stuff from him. He seemed to be a bit of a scatter-brain. My order was delayed, but I did get everything. He also promised me 10% off of my next order for the inconvenience. He came right out and told me not to bother trying to contact him by email because he's always behind on it. I still intend to make another purchase from him. Nice guy.

jacobs 07-22-05 08:08 PM

I just thought I'd revive this.

I just got word from Paypal that they have 100% backed me in my complaint against this seller, and have refunded me the money I paid to them.

I ordered a Nitto Aluminum Track Stem off the HouseofTrack.com website on July 1st, despite the warnings I'd read on here. He also had some praise, and good prices, so I took a chance.

I didn't hear back from the guy for 10 days after that. I called daily, sent emails over and over again, and on one occasion even got through on the phone and was PROMISED a call back later that day (never got one). He eventually got back to me and said (in his terribly difficult to understand manner) that they didn't even have the item I ordered (despite his site saying it was in stock), and how I would get a refund.

After repeatedly emailing asking for this refund, he sent me something back saying he was going to be getting some kind of comparable item into stock, and he'd let me know when they got in. He never responded to me again. I went through Paypal, and they sided with me, so I am getting my money back.

Don't buy from this guy.

brunning 07-23-05 10:15 AM

strange folks, out there in vegas.

besides one order that took about a week longer than it should have (they were swamped with orders, and my parts got misplaced, a simple mistake), i've ordered from them maybe 5 or 6 times, both on ebay and off, with good results.

they seem like nice enough people, but it's really no mystery why their business is hurting. among publishing wholesale prices, rants against suppliers and other shops and these borderline bizarre (yet somehow fascinating) two page emails i'd get from neal about related and entirely unrelated things, you can see why they might come across as poor business-people, or just slightly loco.

anyway, on the plus side, any time i've found something priced lower elsewhere, they've always beat that price, probably operating with some pretty slim profit margins (the track side of the shop does not make a profit, according to neal). also, almost every time i've ordered from them, they've sent me something better than what i've ordered, maybe on purpose, maybe not. one time, they sent me a nicer cog than what i ordered, one time a much more expensive chain.

travsi 07-23-05 12:50 PM

well, i ordered some parts and a frame from house of track and i had only a few problems. it appears that around a month ago their computer system crashed and neal lost alot of data. after calling a few times things got straighted out. everything was sent, only took a few weeks (i live in switzerland) and no customs charges!

I did in fact end up ordering a Soma track fork from Neal a couple of weeks ago, and again, the service and delivery were fine. I have nothing bad to say about the guy, other than I wish he'd never gone off and burned his bridges with EAI. I almost want to email him and suggest that he swallow his pride and do whatever is necessary to reestablish a working relationship with them.

jacobs 07-23-05 03:29 PM

I have no doubt that this guy means well.

However:

That doesn't change the fact that he is a complete imbecile and basically stole $60 from me. $60 that I had to go over his head to recover. He had plenty of time to give me the refund he admitted I deserved, and didn't. I wish that I had a good experience with him, and that I could back him up....but I most certainly didn't.

Paul And Pista 07-29-05 10:12 AM

I guess third time's the charm. I didn't have any real problems ordering from any incarnation of House of Track before, but now I'm stuck with Jacobs. I ordered a nitto stem and bars about 2 months ago and it looks like they're not coming. I can't reach them on the phone any more so I'm going through the credit card company and PayPal to dispute. I could have just spent the $10 more and had my stuff the next day from WorldClassCycles...

I might consider ordering from them again, but I think right now is definitely not a good time if anyone else is considering it.

shants 07-29-05 10:25 AM

i just recently ordered a set of mks royal nuevo njs pedals, a 47t 1/8" da chainring, a 16t da cog, and an hkk vertex pro chain... i received the pedals with a note that the other stuff was on back order, asking me to be patient. i called and they said it would be about a week or two. it has almost been a week -- we'll see if i receive the stuff.

i have ordered from them 4 previous times with absolutely no problems. i suspect all will go well.
