I Was Gonna Upgrade My Membership ~ But I'll Just Put The $ Towards Another Track Bik

Yeah, so I was gonna upgrade my membership. Cute 'lil red star, bigger picture of The Dude (or maybe Walter), it would of been cool.

But forget it. I'm gonna keep my $25. And put it towards a new track bike.

Do you feel the same way?

Where you going to upgrade (cHa ChInG) but now not anymore?

If so I'd like to hear from you.

On a different note:

A little late for me. But I was thinking maybe we should start a poll or a petition to get some of our favorite banned members brought back...

And why all this hoopla over trek bikes?

$25 = cha ching for something you use every single day?? I am not happy about today's events either, but don't you think you should pay for something you use regularly. It would be around 1 cent a post. As my dad would say: you dont think this website is hosted on a money tree do you?

sorry i am getting confrontational... but this thread is pushing it a little far. This community wouldnt exist without Joe and his upkeep of the forums. Do you think Joe owes you this service?

While you make a very good point (which is the reason I'm still considering sending $25 to these guys), the thing is, who's to say that the same moderator who banned those guys today doesn't get mad at some silly thing I post in a week and ban me after I've contributed my $25? I mean, seriously, I didn't see what was so horrible that warranted WK getting the boot. He argued a little bit but it's not like he said anything mean or threatning to anyone (at least not that I saw)...

The way I see it (I've already upgraded), regardless of the recent events...What's worse? Some deleted threads or no BikeForums?

I didn't see a reason why WK got the boot either, but who knows what happens behind closed doors and PM's.

I am just wondering what Mayo and WK's NEW names will be when they are back on the forums in a day or two.

well, maybe one way to look at it might be that you've already gotten $25 worth out of the forum?

i mean, in terms of drama, today alone was worth at least $12.50...

All true. Note my cute red star. However, I think there are enough folks here that $25 could get us our own space. No disrespect for Joe. This place is great and Joe has made a profound impact on the world of bikes. I'm just saying, maybe we want to move on.

We would never reach the status and caliber of Joe and BF, but we could get away from some folks with thinner skin.

Just a thought.

It's like when eBay raised their fees. People were TO'd.

But did they leave eBay all togther?

Some did. Some stayed.

So what's the lesson here?

And do Koffee's weight loss tips really work?

And what will this summer bring me? Money? Fame? Another tandem bike?

The answer to this and many other questions is ANOTHER TANDEM!

Yeah, baby...yeah! Two tandems.

With all due respect, you're dealing with people that don't want to pay the five dollar difference between a no-name and Dura Ace cog... good luck with that 25 bucks.

not to be a (what's the opposite of a pollyanna?), but running a big forum is pretty much a full-time job, even if it's invite-only, ad it's a tough way to make a living, 'cause you're always on call.

i'm just sayin'

Fair enough. It was just a suggestion. My thought was that if it was mostly the folks from this subsection of BF, it wouldn't be too big. If folks want to make it work here, I'm all for it.

Dolface - for some reason everytime i see your avatar i start craving herbivore. I have no idea what the connection is because you are far from being the only vegan in the world - but i cant stop thinking about their awesome veggie burger, or those amazing potatoes, or the seiten.

can we do an sf ride that either starts or ends at herbivore soon? morning, evening, night, they are all ok with me!

Oh, and it wouldn't be too mcuh work if we weren't worried about mod crap and what have ya.

And it wouldn't have to be $25 each. I'm sure we could figure something out.

i actually think its a great idea, and would throw in some cash to the person who starts it - but I don't see anyone actually taking the initiative, as dolface said, its hard work.

ooh! THAT'S what i'm going to have for dinner tonight! i've been ttrying to come up with something good since lunch, and you nailed it.

as for the ride, i'm up for it, but i'm climbing mt. whitney this weekend, so next weekend maybe, saturday after i get back from running, meet at herbivore (i don't care which one), eat, ride, and maybe finish at zeitgeist?

Just a thought.

Its like Lord of the Flies...Sure we could get our own place. No rules, No "grown-ups"! Then we'd decide that we needed SOME rules because people are getting in fights and offending each other...so some would leave and we'd set up rules...or perhaps get a few good people to MODerate the board...In a best case scenario we wouldn't be half as good as this site but with a couple dozen people.

This site is fantastic, and not just the Singlespeed Forum. $25, Mods and Mayo aside the fact is that we really couldn't do better than this place...and honestly why would we want to?

Remember nobody forces us to donate $25. If you don't think its worth it..keep your money.

next saturday should be perfect (ostro and I are doing a metric century that morning, but it might be good for our legs to do some light riding afterwards so they dont cramp up). i will post a new thread (instead of commandeering this one) about it next week i love herbivore!

So here’s the initiative. I’ve started a thread on the Sopo Bike Co-op’s forum. This is just to gage interest. If folks are welling to go somewhere else to talk about the possibility of starting a new site, then there might be enough interest to make it work.

I don’t think anyone should have to pay to use a forum. I just want to see if people want to do this.

You don’t have to register to post to the Sopo forum.
https://www.sopobikes.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=241

Edit: It looks like we're staying here. That's cool.

you could just hang out out in the fixedgeargallery.com forums. Little to no moderation over there.

That being said, I'm staying here. byebye.
