shouldn't we have a little pre/post race party or get together to celebrate and all that happy sh*t? Or should we all just bring six packs and drink before/after the race? If you want, people can come to my place, it's pretty close to the park... but it'll be a little crowded if I tried to stuff 35 people in there though. Just a thought....

yeah p.s. it's going to be properly cold tomorrow night, so party ideas need to be a little better thought-out than in the summer. unless you like standing around and freezing. i know i do.

The final race should be something like a boss level out of Sonic the HedgeHog- Someone will operate the grinder "DOT-employee"- Everyone will chase the grinder- an hurl bottles and wrenches "some heavy stuff " at it grinder- and eventually the grinder will be defeated. The driver will flee the scene- to avoid eminent explosion- everyone else will sprint away. Whoever does the most consecutive damage will be decalred the winner. And we shalll drink.

this is my idea:

before the race begins all the spectators move to some point (1 mile, maybe) down the road from the start. A marshall stands at the start and the finish, talking over their phones. We have teams of two to four. rider 1 races the distance and when he crosses the marshall calls the team number back to the start line and the next rider leaves, etc. Perhaps we would decide that there is to be no drafting, etc.

another idea is this: a team sprint. Again we define a short course, but this time all the riders on a team leave at once, one team at a time and it is a race against the clock... we'd still have a judge at the start and the finish. The speeds for a 1 mile team sprint would be really high!

I volunteer to be one of the judges as I had a little mishap on my bike this week and wrenched my back something fierce.

Just some ideas. I think a very competitive short race would be interesting... just a total and complete burnout in 1 mile.

Why don't we just run it, instead of bike it, so we don't ruin our rims, and we can train for all the triathlons next year? A running race would be hysterical. I wouldn't make it 300 yards. We'd all be dying by the top of the downhill.

Yeah, we can have a transition zone and everything, right before the grated section of roadway. Just have everybody hand over their running shoes beforehand and have a couple of people keep an eye on it...it'd be hilarious.

Of course you'd have to run with your bike anyway, just for maximum cruelty's sake...all the way up the hill.

By the way, I've been out riding in PP this week, and I agree with Velove on the Paris-Roubaix comparison. It really is kind of hard on the bike if you take it at speed (I have a couple of new squeaks on my road bike that I've been trying to track down since Tuesday -- of course it was raining then too, which may have compounded things) and in a race situation drafting would be pretty much out of the question (unless you like eating gravel and taking your chances with somebody washing out their rear wheel a few cm in front of you).

But I'll just wait and see what Mr. Monster Legs and tall_animals cook up...

seriously, I tried to run with my bike up that hill a few weeks ago when I got a flat at the bottom on my warm up lap, delaying the start time pretty significantly. I ran about 100 steps before I gave up and waited for Yoshi to come back around with a pump & a tube. Thanks again, Yoshi!

you shouldn't have to wait until spring.... there will be racing over the wintertime I'm pretty sure.

I had a blast last night. Thanks for the race idea Tad&Tyler.

seriously, thanks so much!
this was a really fun few weeks. i really appreciate everyone for coming, because otherwise it would not have been anything at all. there will be wintertime racing every thursday for people who want to go and ride, but nothing organized as of yet. there are somethings in the works for the winter and spring but it is still to early to talk about thoes things now.
congratulations to:
arone and jared
(for first placing first in thier respective catagories)
to:
ellen and andy
(for placing second in thier catagories)
and to:
tyler and amy
(for placing third)

and to everyone else because it would not have been fun without all of you.
