Assuming that you want to stay within 70 gear inches, at 50x16 would do it. I'm assuming that you're going to keep the chainring and just change out the rear freewheel, so I guess it depends what size chainring that is too.

You are correct. I ran 44x15 on my roadie but that has 700c wheels. I assume the larger chainring is to accommodate the smaller wheel but I can't find a conversion chart for wheel size when considering the same gearing.

Edit: It's a 52t ring. Teeth are shot so I'll need a new 130bcd arms to use a NOS RaceFace 53t ring I have.

Thank you I have quite a few keirin bikes and they all tend to eventually look like one another, I admit. One might wonder why I keep collecting them, I suppose... 'We all have our weaknesses', is my excuse.

The things dangling from saddles are omamori, Shinto charms. The ones I like to use for keirin bikes are intended to give luck in terms of 'health and safety'... worthwhile for riding bikes in traffic, perhaps. (I'll take help wherever I can find it, in that regard.)

Edit: It's funny, I just looked over at the Anchor keirin bike and was given a reminder that it is now rocking fully-wrapped Nitto Albatross bars... This might be my favorite bike and I'm sure I would be hated upon for this cockpit were the fixed-gear police to witness it.

According to https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_inches a 16 tooth freewheel will give you 70 gear inches with a 52t ring.

Latest project. Finally found a home for my S3X. Fell on the shakedown ride of 10 miles on Sunday. Hip and backside still hurt! Currently set at 71, 53, and 44 for winter duty. Will bump up to 75, 56, 46 or 92, 70, 58 in the summer. Not sure which GI will be best.

Racy geometry. Responsive and fairly stiff for vintage. Love these Tenax Schwinn's!

What color bar tape? Yellow? Black? Red? I'm thinking yellow?? 🤔

I like that it's unique. And I feel I can get two useable gears out of the three. This is the 3rd or 4th bike I've had it on. I have commented before on it.

I think I paid 199 shipped from bikeisland for the wheelset which includes everything for install. Last time I looked they still had them available at this price. Did have to contact Sturmey for new gear internals and shifter which they replaced and shipped free of charge (early versions had issues). I have had zero mechanical issues in probably 700-1000 miles worth of use and I am a Clyde.

Gear ratios are 💯 (direct), 75% and 62.5%. Not ideal, especially compared to the well regarded Sturmey ASC from the 40s-50s iirc. The jumps are too much and the range ideally would be tightened up. My experience is you get two useable gears and one too high or one too low. Does have some weight and mechanical lash. Lash doesn't bother me, as it does some, but the experience is different from traditional fixed gear set up.

Considering my last wheelset from Ben's was about the same price and the hubs alone go for $100-120+ it was fine for me. I don't love it, but I do like it a lot. Gives me some variety in my fleet and adds some gear inches flexibility on longer rides. I have only seen a couple others in person, and online for that matter so it's definitely unique.

It sucks for me because I'm a welder/fabricator by trade. I can clean it and reweld it but I don't have any way to heat treat it. 6xxx series aluminum for the loss. 7xxx can be rewelded without heat treating it.

I've lurked on this thread for a long time, and am finally posting a pic... this is my 3rd fixie. I just sold my 'forever bike' which was a Redline 925 that was a smidge too big for me and put together this based on parts I had lying around and a new frame from bikeisland (motobecane record) which I am really loving. The saddle is horrible, and I've got a guard to mount on the crankset, and I'll probably swap out the bars (they're prob going on my commuter) but it's pretty fun as it is! The pic was taken to highlight the corks from bottles of Catoctin Creek Rye that we recently finished. :-)

Naturallly as I can't leave ANYTHING alone, they're no longer mounted, but they're Kenda Kwick Cross, 700 x 30c which actually had plenty of room on this frame. The frame DID require longer reach brakes, but the Tektros are working quite well. It's now wearing a pair of 28mm tires.

I looked it up on the BI site and it claims 32c. From your experience do you think it would fit a 40c? I only ask because I don't know if it's 32c with or without fenders.

Edit: I used the Tektro 559s on my Trek Soho S gravel conversion and they work amazingly for a road caliper.

That cheap saddle was just put on for a trial ride, but I actually find it comfortable.
