Tapered fork in a straight head tube, but in a fixie?

Tapered fork in a straight head tube, but in a fixie?

hi,
i am seing how some people are using MTB tapered forks (e.g. 1.1/8 1.5) in straight (1.1/8) MTB frames using an external bottom bearing...
has anybody here tried something similar with a fixie or singlespeed?
thanks in advance!

Its just a different sized bottom cup. I don't see why that wouldn't work.

So what they are typically using is a 44mm straight head tube which with the correct bearings can run tapered steerer tubes. A 1 1/8 straight head tube will not accept a tapered fork because it is simply too small to fit the tapered head tube.

Here is some helpful info for headset identification and a little background:
44mm headtube options ? Machine Bicycle Co.

If you are looking for a carbon fork for a 1 1/8 head tube might I suggest the Whisky Parts Co. I have their No. 7 RD Straight fork on my Langster and it is fantastic and can fit my 28mm tires just fine with room to spare. They also make various canti and disc versions and one that can fit wide tires with a mid-reach caliper. They make fine carbon components at decent prices and the cool thing is your local bike shop is likely to easily be able to get one assuming they are a QBP dealer which is pretty common. https://whiskyparts.co/forks

I believe Rtichey, ENVE, Columbus and Fyxation make carbon forks of varying levels and usages and plenty of custom makers doing steel forks if that is your jam and if you need something more affordable you can find plenty of stock steel forks out there. I am sure you can also get an aluminum fork if you must.
