brakeless + freewheel

Went for a late ride the other night. Got a flat on the tubular on Milwaukee and Division. No problem, I'll just pull over, get the spare tire out of the bag...it's not there. Luckily I remembered I had a wheel stashed at my friends place near Chicago Ave. Get there, get the wheel and...it's only got the freewheel on it. By now it's midnight, and I can't think of anything else to do, so I make the ~ 3 mile journey home totally brakeless. Between flintstone foot-downs and foot on the back-wheel BMX style stops, it wasn't too bad. Just like the Redline I had when I was a kid. Man, I need a clincher wheelset.

Glad you made it home ok.

Why didn't you just ride home on it? I've done it, and lots of people do it.

On the busted tubular? I tried to pump it up enough to ride on it, but no go.

You can ride on the flat tubular because it doesn't damage the rim, you'll only mess up your already dead tire. Just don't take turns too fast.
