Need some expert advice?

Hi guys, new member here. How's everyone doing.

My 10-year-old Charge Plug was recently stolen and I'm looking for a suitable replacement. I've narrowed it down to a few options - I was about to opt for the Fuji Feather as I heard great things, but then I saw two more options at a slightly lower price point. I don't know a thing about the differences between these, but I want a fast, solid, reliable ride that will be similar in feel to the Plug I'm used to. I want it to last me a good few years, too. If you guys could offer any opinions on the right choice here I'd appreciate it! thank you.

Also one question - I'm 5'8 and the Fuji size chart recommends the 54cm size, however they only have the 52 in stock. Do you think going for the 52 would be a bad idea? Will 2cm make a noticeable difference to my ride?

I can't post the URLS because i'm a new member but the models are

Fuji Feather 2020

State Bicycle Co. The Sokol - 4130 Core - Line

Quella Premium Varsity Collection - Oxford

thanks again.

Hello,

Welcome to the forum! IMHO, it's never a good idea to get a frame that is too small for you. It may be workable with a stem change, but depending on the changes made, it may affect the handling.

Have a look at the Kilo TT on bikes direct too, they are really good bang for the buck, and pretty decent quality. If you care about weight, it is possible to get them under 20 lbs with some parts changes.

Thanks Dave - so even 2cm could make a noticeable difference? I can't remember if my Charge was S or M, but it was either 50 or 54cm, so 52 would be bang in the middle of where I was comfortable before. Though it's a different bike of course so there's other aspects of size to consider.

Kilo TT looks really nice, unfortunately I can't find any UK or EU suppliers with it. Thanks for the heads up though.

Do you know anything about the other two models I listed that aren't the Fuji? They're available in what's supposedly the right size, I think.

Recommend check out the State 4130. It's a fantastic double butted CroMoly fixie/single speed steel frame bike for a great price, $450 USD which is less than half the price of the Wabi Classic. I had a Wabi Classic and sold it because I didn't love it and bought the State 4130 Matte Black which I enjoy much more. The 55cm (5'7"-5'11" riders) frame should fit you perfectly at 5'8". I am 5'10" and sized up to the 59cm State 4130 which is perfect for me.

I had a Fuji Feather for a short time because I found it on closeout for $200. I'm 5'7" with 31.5 inseam and got the 52. I felt it was too small so I sold it. Because I got it so cheap it was easy to get my money back. Pretty bike for cheap, but if it doesn't fit...

Thanks for the responses, everyone. It seems as if the 52 wouldn't be a good fit, I've read elsewhere that the Feathers are quite compact in general, and if AlmostTrick found a 52 too small at 5'7 then I'm sure I would at 5'8.

Does anyone know anything about the Fuji Track Classic? I've found one for £350 in my size.

Would save me £200, looks in pretty solid condition. I know the Track RRP is slightly cheaper, does anybody know why?

The Kilo TT is sold solely through Bikes Direct. They don't sell through dealers, hence the name.

What year is the Fuji Track Classic you found? They used to be around 23.5 lbs., which is heavy for a track bike. Doesn't matter for most riding though. I would classify it as a basic, plain Jane mass-produced track bike. Nothing special but it doesn't suck either.

mastermullen 06-19-20 10:19 AM

Ah I see - bikesdirect is a US website, right? The shipping might be a bit much for me? I'll check again.

The year isn't listed, unfortunately, - here's a link: w w w. ebay .co. uk/itm/224048955614 (i've had to space it out as it won't allow me to post links..)

Can you tell what year it is? Looks relatively shiny/new to me, but he says he's refurbished it somewhat. It's about half a kilo heavier than the feather, and half a kilo lighter than the Charge I was used to, so I don't think I'll mind the weight. Do you think I could do better for £350 (430 USD) ?

Thanks for the advice!
