Dude, that would be awesome. We should organize this alleycat. The Fantasy Baseball Alleycat. The spoke cards can be all the famous NY messenger all-stars, with their stats on the back. Or maybe it would be better to spend our time making messenger trading cards like they have on that poster in Trackstar. Think about how much cash the uber-valuable Mike D. rookie card with error would fetch on
e-bay!! Probably more than that Jim Abbot card where he appears with two hands!!! Can I get a hells yeah?

What about if we already live in canada? Would you force us to move to the US? Cuz then i will totally abide.

Also, it seems that maybe if someone sprung for some trophies then this wouldn't be an issue. I'd be really impressed if some guy had like 12 bronze statues on his bike.

I have to agree, you can't demand more respect for cyclists when you fragrantly ride dangerously, knock over pedestrians, tap and hold onto cars, run red lights through busy intersections causing cars to skid to a halt, etc. etc.

Either be an outlaw, or obey the social contract. You can't have it both ways. It annoys me when a cyclist who rides the wrong way on a one way street, runs red lights, etc. etc. then demands that all people recognize his legal status as a vehicle when he himself does not obey the laws of a vehicle.

I break the same minor laws as everyone else, like not stopping at stop signs when no one is around, but I also don't get self-righteous about my supposed legal rights.

If you want the laws to apply to you, you have to obey them as well.

go to your local mag stand and pick out any magazine, vogue is prefered or anything that seems to be about alt.culture or extreme sports, then proceed to clip out 'exciting' images and laminate it and stick it in your spokes. voila

nylund, champ, where in this thread was anyone demanding they have their pie (!) and eat it too, regarding cycling and traffic laws? Did I miss it?

Take it to the advocacy forum, eh? This thread is about spoke cards and Canada and laying down the law. *****es.

YAWN! This argument over the proper social customs of fixed-gear riding is getting really old. Its like people want it to be a fraternity with rules and regulations. Have you ever noticed that sometimes people create overly broad and strict rules just so they can whine and condemn those that break them(aka anything that anyone who is not in their circle of friends does)

i have a spoke card that my girlfriend made for me out of love, it's a print out of an old poster that has a couple riding bikes on it, and it says "ride a bike, it's fun!" on it. i know several others who have spoke cards that were made for them by loved ones. i also have an old drinking glass that has a couple on a tandem riding down the street accompanied by the phrase "...on a bicycle built for two!" on it. am i supposed to give that up because i don't actually own a tandem?

i think it's a tad ironic to get self-rightous about something that you, yourself don't participate in. it's like non-messenger guilt over riding a bike that's fun to ride. I have 9 bikes, i ride them all. i ride every day to and from work. i've ridden my bike every day for the last 6 years as my main mode of transportation, and guess what, i roll my pant legs up and carry a messenger bag, and so do most of my co-workers at the shop where i work on bikes for 8 hours a day. as far as i'm concerned, anyone who rides a bike is awesome. even if they're on a fixed gear and don't know how to handle it yet, they'll learn, just like i did, just like everyone else, even the holier than the holy messengers, did before them.

get over yourselves.

I don't care unless you bought the card at Urban Outfitters. But if you did by it at UO, then I don't really care about you. So I guess I'm back to not caring.

The Federal Government has four classifications for geographic areas: urban, suburban, rural and frontier.
Within the continental limits of America, only Central and Eastern Oregon qualify as frontier.
That surprises a lot of people.
What about Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas?
Nope.
Only Central and Eastern Oregon.

So out here on the real frontier we have real cattle ranches and people who dress up as cowboys every day as part of going to work.
Some of the cowboys have really authentic costumes and stuff on their very authentic horses.
They even go to rodeos where they can show off their cowboy costumes and their ability to ride a horse.
Although one could say that they represent the last real cowboys on the planet, they come accross as posers.
I think some of them do it just for an excuse to dress up in a cowboy costume.
If their horse had spokes, I doubt if any of the cowboys would stick rodeo cards in their horse's spokes.
But then, what do cowboys know about what really matters?

We also have folks out here who just like to ride horses, and who need to go places only a horse or a man on foot could go.
Some of these horse riders wear cowboys boots and cowboy hats, but they don't strike me so much as posers as do the guys who have cowboy jobs just as an excuse to wear the costume.
Out here, on the real frontier, the biggest posers and pretenders actually work as cowboys.
Go figure.

By the way, following Aeroplane's advice, I did a search on "Hipster," "King of the Hipsters" and "Hipster Pride," but I didn't come up with any cards.
Dang!
Do I sense a business opportunity here?
A niche?
I could publish hipster cards that refer to events that never happened, and if somebody came up and asked me about the event I could say "Invitation only - too bad you missed it."

Wow...didn't think i'd get so many people upset... I was just annoyed at what I saw because I saw the bike on the Pratt campus(alma matter, art school) a very trendy place thats like high school with different cliques depending on how you look and despite some real talented artists, contains mostly spoiled rich kids angry at the world because thats what artists are suppose to do.

So to avoid anymore fights and disagrements, I'd like to hijack my own thread and change the subject to something less bloodpressure raising like what's the best stem or how to get rid of that annoying creak in my crank. let all have a big group e-hug and enjoy the rest of the day talking about what we really love, biking and not about what we do or do not approve of be it hipster or coaster brakes.

Real artists/architects go to Cooper Union then to Yale.

Yo tehz, you keep forgeting the "u" in pos ers. Which must make you authentic or something, unless, of course you're trying to be ironic.
