Damaged Hplus Son Archetype
I was in a hit and run almost 3 months back and this is my rear wheel. The hub is done. I’m just curious about the rim. Obviously it’s bent but it’s not too bad? I want to know if it’s safe to use still. To re-lace it with a new hub in the future. The seam( which is barely visible) is totally intact and perfect. However, it is damaged on the sidewall and If you look at few of the spoke holes they look wonky a bit. What are your thoughts?

Not worth it. You said hub is done, also spoke obviously need to be replace, all of it.
Not worth just for a rim. Costs will be adds up and you can get a new one instead of this. If you just want rim, buy a new one, its 90-100 bucks I think. But build the new wheel, still costly. |
what happened to the hub? usually that's the last part to take damage.
if the hub is done, just start over. now is a good time to learn to build wheels. if you're on a budget, these look pretty good: Velomine deal |
This might be a better "replacement" for the wheels the OP has.

I never have understood threads like this. The wheel is visibly damaged yet you are thinking of rebuilding it? Why? What money are you really saving if things go really bad?
Look I could understand wanting to try and save something that is super rare and valuable but H+Son rims aren't hard to find, they are certainly great quality otherwise I probably wouldn't use them but nothing worth saving if they are damaged. |
