In June 2009 I bought a VISP TRX790 frameset on eBay from a seller in Asia for $121 where the shipping cost was almost as much as the frameset itself. It is an aluminum frame made with 6061 tubing and a very heavy fork with a steel steerer tube and aluminum fork blades. Interestingly, the frame is made in Taiwan, not China, and the welds are very nice. I bought it because I wanted a fixed gear for street riding that had track geometry and an elevated bottom bracket for cornering clearance that could not be provided with a road bike conversion. The initial build was cobbled up with cheap spare parts with some improvements such as dual hooded brake levers, but basically it remained pretty much a beater bike until I decided to turn it into a track racing bike after I had turned my Bianchi Pista Concept into a street fixed gear. At this point I made the major upgrade to a Leader i803 fork with carbon blades and an aluminum steerer tube. It also inherited the very nice Pista Concept stock wheels which are Cane Creek Volos tubulars with bladed spokes. The crank arms are Andel RSC1 takeoffs from my Wabi Lightning when I upgraded it to Sugino 75 crank arms, that were in turn a takeoff from my Bianch Pista Concept when I upgraded it to a Sugino 75DD crankset. The track bar and stem also came from the Pista Concept and I bought a Tioga Spyder TT ass-killer saddle. The next mod was to replace the track bar and stem with a track pursuit bar which I used just once before my local track closed at the end of 2017. Since then, it's been sitting unused in my living room, until today when I decided to get some used out of it again and installed a bullhorn bar that was left over when I replaced it on my khaki Soma Rush with a drop bar. The stem and cross lever were spares in my parts bin, but I still need a front brake caliper which I just ordered today on eBay. The bike should weigh about 17.5 lbs with the brake installed, which is about the same weight as my Leader 721tr that also sports tubular tires. Total cost for this mod is $32 for the brake caliper.

That’s a pretty cool bike, in every configuration shown.

Also just ordered a bracket for mounting a water bottle cage to the handlebar, since the pointed shape of the downtube precludes mounting a water bottle cage there. Don't want to go very far without hydrating in the summer Texas heat.

Good call. A bike ride stops being fun the minute you pass out from heat stroke.

My Parallax has no water bottle bosses, so I sometimes use the strap-on adapters from Two Fish. Also sometimes put a bottle in my jersey pocket, but that’s not very comfortable.

Back on topic, it looks like that VISP has had a vida bueno.

Another photo of the VISP with Andel cranks, Sugino ZEN chainring and clip-on TT bar extensions. I actually rode this in the fixed gear category of a road TT. Won my age class and was fourth overall.
