Just wanted to get a feel for how people have their bullhorns angled on the FG/SS bikes. I recently switched to the 'horns because the frame that I converted was a little short in the TT, and I like a more stretched out riding position (I hardly ever rode out of the drops). I have started developing a little bit of hand pain, only in the palm of my right hand, in that pad where the thumb joins the hand. I noticed that my horns had slipped down in angle to where they were below parallel to the road. I moved them back to a slight angle (B) and really clamped them down this time. My hand still hurts but it could be residual from the sub-A position. HAs anyone else played with angles to eliminate pain, or will I eventually go back to drops?
Which scheme below best represents your bull horn position?

Mine are chopped and flopped bars, so I'd say somewhere between A and B.

I used to ride with the A position, but developed some pretty bad wrist pain, so I angled them up to the B position and after a few days the pain went away.

I ride nearly always on the ends of the bullhorns although I climb with my hands between the ends and the bends. I tried A and went back to B because my back was killing me.

About halfway between A and B. I voted B as they are not level.

Oh! so the pointing up bit is the ends of the bullhorns... I run mavic bullhorns with big drop so I was assuming for some reason that the stem would be on the left side of the diagram.... I was wondering who all these crazies with downwards pointing bars were... even so, my bars are pretty much flat, although they may be inscrutibly upwards angled

losen your bars a little. Then sit on your bike and grab the bars. Put them at an angle the leaves your wrists as straight (neutral) as possible. (By straight I mean like when holding a stick with both hands about shoulder wide). Depending on arm, torso and top tube length that will be a different angle for everyone, but usually that means that the bars ar pointing lightly up (if they are straight all the way). This will be the most painfree / ergonomical position if you are riding in the saddle and gripping the horns a lot. However, this also might make the bicycle less aero or will inhibit you from doing stylish trick - like over the bar skids. Also, when i use bullhorns I usually only use the horn part for climping, spriniting and out of the saddle riding, so I run mine close to parallel to the ground, because my hand angle changes when I am standing up. Anyway, after going through various types of bars I am totally sold on risers bars (salsa steel ones made by nitto).

I've been a long-time bullhorn follower but since I've been going to the track, I've found myself not putting the bullhorns back on and about three weekends ago, I stopped. The drops are actually quite nice, especially since Chicago really doesn't have any hills to speak of.
However, I've been curious about riser bars. I'd like to try those.

like absntr, i'd like more information about these steel nitto/salsa riser bars. absntr, i encourage you to try some, though. especially for short jaunts around the city. i put my flipped-and-chopped horns on last night and after a ride quickly took them off. i feel like i have no control on them

At $70 they're a little pricey. I'll search eBay a little.
Habitus - what bars are you running?
Does 50cm feel odd? I rode my mountain the other day to tune-it up before I sold it off and the bars felt sooooooo wide. Would you chop them down?

I'd say mine are a combination of A and B, not a position somewhere in between. I run Nitto RB-009 'horns which give a good reach and have a good drop in them, so there are angles on my 'horns that match up with the angles on both A and B.

i have risers on both my bikes. currently, i have nashbar cross country bars on the raleigh (first pic) and dimension 30mm riser bars on my nishiki (second pic). i sawed both down to about 44cm wide. of course, oury grips adorn both. the dimension bars used to be on the raleigh.
i like 30-40mm rise and about 44cm width. perfect for my shoulder width. enjoy!

yeah, i've posted one of each.
go here https://students.washington.edu/cjward/raleigh1.jpg for a pic of the raleigh that harlot took a couple months ago. i should post a new pic in the other thread, though, as i've changed a bunch of things.

i got a pair of "power tools" risers for like $1.50 from ebay plus $6 shipping. they're awesome.
i have a pair of nashbar 2" risers that i mounted on my bike for like 20 mins, but decided i didn't like 'em. if anyone wants 'em, holler at me.
